General Coach Candidate News

OK so I didn't miss anything last night. Wonder why it has been so quiet. I haven't been able to get much info from people close to the situation since Feb 14 morning. Even when I do they will never use the candidate by name.

Board seems to have dissolved into a ‘ throw a name of any living or dead basketball coach ,who realistically or not , IU has supposedly, should or shouldn’t hire as next coach’. So no.

This is not a sleight to anyone who provides information on this board from sources...but with our resources, and with how much time Dolson has had to get a plan together, and how quiet things have been, if Dolson strikes out on a big name coach, then it truly was a huge miscalculation on his part...

With that said I think we will end up with a good coach...though it doesn't take much to find an improvement over Woodson...

I don’t know why people are scared to hire re-treads or P5 coaches that maybe didn’t have as much success the first time. Is it my first choice? No. But if we miss on Stevens, Otz, May, and Drew then I’d take a look at someone like a Collins or Pitino.

Barnes is having way more success at UT than he ever did at Texas or Clemson. McDermott did not do well his first P5 gig. Otz while not P5 the mountain west is arguably better some years and he did not do well.

I’m sure there are others that fit into this category.

I’m fully expecting someone new to pop in sometime after lunch with a new completely bonkers option. My money has been on someone pushing Shrewsberry for a few days, just waiting for that to come to fruition. Surprised it’s taken so long to be honest. Expecting big things from the Friday news dump.

I've heard you're going to be really happy with the next coach. I've heard Scott got his guy, and many different versions of that.

This make me feel much better and it's what I believe at this point. He's got someone already. Who that is I'm not fully confident. My theory is we probably reached out to other people like Dusty to see their interest. But whomever we have secured is the only one we actually offered the job to.

I think Dusty was already inclined not to take it to begin with. One because he's happy at Michigan and  didn't want to turn his back on school that wanted him when Indiana didn't. But also he probably knew he was a plan B and didn't like that. That's speculation on my part. But without those dynamics I think he wouldn't have signed a extension so soon.

I have 30 pages to catch up on and I don’t think I have it in me this time. I’m going to jump a head. I’m assuming 1555 to 1585 is more of the same fun stuff with really no new info.  If there is would someone please be a gem and give me the cliff notes?

You will miss out on some fascinating Mark Turgeon info.

We should calm down before we get a masshole 2 comment.lol If he’s coming we won’t know for a while so let’s get back on topic…Mark Turgeon

Honestly I would welcome it so we could definitively put an end to the Stevens chapter once and for all. Until we get something more direct, or smoke starts to leak that Dolson has been told no by him, there will always be a glimmer of hope regardless of how small.

I truly believe what we are seeing is that Dolson has not been told no, or if he has, he has kept it really close to the vest (which would make very little sense not to want leaked imo). Because of this none of our insiders have heard anything to corroborate the Goodman quote and have almost to a person remained in at least the ‘maybe’ category for BS.

None of that is to say I think the chances of him actually coaching here are very high, but until something clearly shows he’s out and we’ve moved on it is difficult for me to not at least wonder if it’s happening.
