General Coach Candidate News

Explain the rationale that Stevens is a pipe dream but Drew isn’t.

I think every high-caliber head coaching candidate is a "pipe dream" at this point simply because there is no information leaking whatsoever, all we know right now is that there are highly confident and excited vibes amongst donors. Other than that, it's anyone's guess.

I do not think that Indiana is even remotely considering guys like McCollum or Cronin if this is the vibe. I believe we are getting one of Brad Stevens, Scott Drew, TJ Otz, or someone else with an impeccable résumé. In other words, I think we're going to get a "pipe dream" caliber coach. We just don't know who yet, and with so little info, everyone at this point seems like a long shot.

Over the past four years, Moser has gone 46-8 in nonconference play...but 23-41 against conference foes.

How is this guy even being talked about? Succeeding in conference play has to be a top 5 qualification.

I don't think Porter Moser was brought up as a candidate this cycle, people were simply comparing his 2021 résumé to 2025 McCollum

Well, yeah he is.

Do I think Brad Stevens is going to come? He may, he may not. But you call other people out for not providing proof when you’re not providing proof yourself? Isn’t that a little hypocritical?

Sure, but he wasn't wrong when he said people who believe BS is coming, don't ask for proof, but when someone else says he isn't coming , they ask for proof. That is just as hypocritical IMO.

I think Truth is wrong to demand that people stop believing he is coming. People can believe what they want. I personally don't think it will happen,  but I would be ecstatic if it does. What I don't like to see is if we don't get him, some seem to think the sky is falling and we will hire another Woodson.

Right, I remember that as well.  Turns out to be true.  I still don't get why we caved in on the Lucas Oil game.  Seems that UK got the better end of the deal.  Starts there and they get a year at Lucas Oil.

I saw that the Lucas Oil game is considered a home game and not a neutral site game. That means that IU controls the tickets like a home game. It's possible IU wanted that for some reason (I think it was Cal but just saying it's possible). It does seem like it would be better to have both home games  in Bloomington, at least to me.

Yes, it’s currently a 4 year deal

2025 at UK

2026 at Lucas Oil

2027 at UK

2028 at IU

A scheduled hammered out by two coaches that won't be at the respective schools when first game is played.  Thanks Woody for losing to Calipari on the neutral site.

PS: Before anyone jumps down my throat, I know Woody is not to blame for 2026 neutral site.  But he kind of is LOL.

Even in 2021 Moser was a weird candidate. This was a guy who was fired by Illinois State and took 7 years to have a winning conference record at Loyola... then they took off and had a great four-year stretch.

McCollum is not very similar. Risky for different reasons that Moser.

Regardless of who is asked to prove their information, reality will eventually rise to the top. If I want to believe information I like without proof, but ask for proof of something I don't like that is up to me as the person receiving the information. If you want to say that it's hypocritical, that's fine, but either way, I am responsible for my own interpretation of the information I receive, even if it's limited by my own doing. I guess I don't understand why people are so worried about the reactions of others?

Interesting, good catch.  I thought the Lucas Oil game would be 50/50 like The Hoosier/RCA Dome and Freedom Hall games.  Agree if we have two games at UK we should have two at IU, but at least the games are back.

Personally, I would have this game in Lucas Oil every year with IU and UK fans split at center court.  This game is special and there isn’t anything else like it, it’s the Red River Rivalry of CBB if both schools would get the scheduling right (and we need to be a better program, though that is hopefully getting fixed).
