I don’t think IU will hire McCollum but comparing him to Porter Moser is nuts

I’m not really saying in terms of style or coaching or personality . But just a reminder he’s the mid major flavor of the year . And D2 / mid major success in NO WAY indicates high major success it’s a totally different beast in every way. Too many examples to cite but we experienced it first hand with Archie . Porter Moser and his luck success at Oklahoma is another example

If some other Blue Blood gets Oats i'm gonna be upset. lol

Rumor mill is he (Oats) has his eyes on Kansas that’s why KU fans have been so irritated the last 2 years of Self and want him put in out to pasture.

but I got to imagine he might have taken UNC if it opened up hard one to pass up !

Maybe they aren't...

.....mabye one of the requests from "Dolson's guy" was to get teams "A", "B" and "C" scheduled for next year to help bolster IU's resume. I would definitely be like, "I will make that happen. What else can I do for you?"

Maybe one reason behind the improved schedule is to elevate our national exposure.  With a newly hired, big name coach it would add a lot of hype to the media coverage.  Our recent lackluster preseason schedule has provided no "buzz" (other than getting stomped by every decent team we played).

It's not like after the Woodson retirement announcement Dolson thought welp let's work on the schedule.  This has likely been something that's been on going and agreed upon well before either announcement.

With TV/media agreements I’m sure this gets pushed as early as possible.  Waiting to schedule so that we can name a coach is likely not an option.

Yes, it’s currently a 4 year deal

2025 at UK

2026 at Lucas Oil

2027 at UK

2028 at IU

The joke at the time it was announced was that Calipari will not be around when the game is in Bloomington.  LOL  I didn't think it would come true in just a few months after the announcement.

Right, I remember that as well.  Turns out to be true.  I still don't get why we caved in on the Lucas Oil game.  Seems that UK got the better end of the deal.  Starts there and they get a year at Lucas Oil.

I wouldn't worry too much about this. Nate Oats is already somewhere with pretty substantial financial commitment to basketball. Every football school is now effectively by extension a basketball school too.

People forget that football is about 80-90% of funding these days. Basketball definitely takes a back seat to football on the national stage; the national audience generally only pays attention to college basketball when the tourney rolls around. In this era, football drives the bus of athletic finances, and that's why it was so important for Indiana under Whitten and Dolson's leadership to finally "get it" and make a serious investment in football. It matters now more than ever that we embrace football at Indiana, whether we like it or not.

Bottom line: Alabama will be good at basketball for the foreseeable future, and Nate Oats likely won't be going anywhere. Thanks to football, they have the money to stave off any blue blood that comes calling.

I believe Crean was trying to get them back on the schedule when he was here with a home and home with a game in Louisville and one in Indy in between, and Cal wanted nothing to do with home games because he wanted a game in Indy for recruiting. IIRC

Explain the rationale that Stevens is a pipe dream but Drew isn’t.
