Until we start bringing in top talent across the board like the elite teams, we'll struggle against real title contenders. Even if we never do (how many elite cfb teams are there?) - being a very good, top 1/3 of the conference team, year in and year out, would still be a fantastic improvement. Protecting our home court would be a fantastic improvement given Woody's lost 15 times in SSAH. lillurk 1

EasyEJay Posted February 25, 2025 Posted February 25, 2025 (edited) Cabin fever will be at its peak both today and tomorrow (at least we have the game as a distraction for better or worse!) im guessing Thursday or Friday will be big days . Most likely will get something from the Insiders as Saturday and Sunday get closer . Either them pumping up the announcement , or they are now “delaying the announcement” due to IUs recent success and possible tournament berth , or will tell us the “reasoning of how it has now fallen apart” and IU is moving on . I don't recall that being said about any other school unless I am totally out of the loop ( like say Duke or UNC ) Good question — genuinely don’t think there’s a good reason, especially now that football’s good. Like the real reason is that IU… 1. Should’ve handled the Knight departure differently, then 2. Was genuinely put in a bad place by a good thing (‘02 runner-up finish) and did what they probably had to do; stuck with Davis. 3. Then the President overruled the AD to hire Sampson, a great coach who should’ve known better. 4. The Sampson mess meant IU did probably as well as they could to get Crean, and he ran his course for reasons both outside and inside his control. 5. Archie was a defensible pick in a bad cycle but turned out about as bad as we could’ve imagined. 6. And of course Woodson hasn’t worked out, though the extent to which that’s the case is somewhat overstated. But if IU handles #1 better, or doesn’t get to the ‘02 final, or picks Beilein instead of Sampson, or Hulls isn’t hurt and can thus shoot in the ‘13 S16 and Crean proceeds differently thereafter, or any number of other things go differently, the last 25 years are better, more consistent, and nobody calls it a “fishbowl” pumpfake, Deserthoozier, BtownStrength and 7 others 10
southernindianahoosier2 Posted February 25, 2025 Posted February 25, 2025 Based on what SS said today in the Trilly chat…. Sounds like 1 of 2 possibilities. 1. Dolson fired woody because he has his guy and has been working for about a year behind the scenes very calculated and nothing is leaking, like how Cig was only mentioned right before the announcement (Stevens). 2. Stevens said “no”, Dusty May unexpectedly said “no”, and were on candidate 3 Drew, and if he says “no” then it moves to the Otz and Mccollum types. 3. If we get 1-4 more “no”s then this could end badly unless we hold our noses and hire beard thebigweave, VFury, Deserthoozier and 2 others 5

iu2win Posted February 25, 2025 Posted February 25, 2025 The forum speculation about the coaching search is fun and entertaining. However, I'm at the point where I think Dolson has the situation exactly where he wants it: rumors have gone rampant to a point it seems few (if anyone other than Scott) can keep up and know for sure where things stand with any coaching candidate. Things are certainly quiet now and that causes me to think Scott has this well in hand. There are many particulars that could result in Scott having this sewn up but not able to make it public ... yet. Artie86, thebigweave, JustWinBaby and 4 others 7

Popular Post lillurk Posted February 25, 2025 Popular Post Posted February 25, 2025 By the way, if we end up with TJ Otzelberger — and increasingly I wonder if he’s the odds-on favorite — we are going to have a GREAT coach. HoosierDevils, BtownStrength, IU Faithful and 19 others 22

I guess it comes from our fans getting upset when our team severely underperforms for a number of years despite that being a reasonable reaction. I think our fans are patient all things considered, it’s amazing so many people still care. Coaching at IU rules. Big resources. Get elite players. Nice facilities. Nice town. Huge support and an amazing venue in Assembly Hall. IU fans will travel to neutral sites and provide a crowd advantage — hell we outdrew UConn at MSG last season and managed a 50/50 crowd in Auburn’s backyard in Atlanta… and we had a bad team! Sure, take the big swings if you need to, but then get into your actual process and nail down your guy. And it’s gonna take a minute. The downside of Woody not making it to the end of the year is the giant information vacuum that we’re going to spend the next 6-8 weeks filling with our angst and insanity. But they’ll get a good dude. They will. Not concerned about the size of the name. We don't need to win the press conference or the off-season. We need to win games. I feel confident we have many good options to get us to a floor of tournament team 9 out of 10 years, and several options that include ceilings of multiple B1G championships & final fours in a ten year span... options outside of Stevens May, and Beard even! He talked a lot about the fun but also the “fire crean” chants at his son’s high school games and being approached at church or while sitting in his car at a stop light. With the right coach, it will be great. But a fanbase this big also has a few bad actors. “Fishbowl” is used so much it’s meaningless, but I do think this is an intense environment. 8bucks, VFury, BtownStrength and 7 others 10
