I could be wrong, but I thought someone said last year that Buckner didn't think there was anything special about Dusty as a coach (or something like that).

Buckner strikes again!

I’d recommend today’s episode of Mind Your Banners if you’d like an optimistic look at why the job is attractive, and todays episode of CrimsonCast for Evan’s of Cronin, Drew, Brownell, and McCollum.

Thanks.  Interesting ZO/MN report IU is going to allocate our rev share to bball to be 2x the conference average.  This is the first I've heard this.

Some schools may do something similar, but it sounds like we are getting aggressive with rev share to bball and we will be top or close to top of the conference.  That rev share commitment plus our already top-5 NIL is a lot of player payroll available, not exactly surprising for IUBB.  Coach candidates should find that enticing.

That said, I hope we give Cig plenty of the rev share too...

So I've seen people turning their nose up at Drew becasue he's too much of a man of faith. Good call. Lets do a little research on Drew and Baylor shall we:

In 20 seasons at Baylor:

-Has 171 more wins than next winningest coach Henderson who coached in '41-'43 and '45-'61 (18 seasons)

-Before Drew arrived Baylor had made the tournament exactly 4 times. 3 of those with the aforementioned coach Henderson (46, 48 and 50)

-Since Drew arrived they have made it 12 times. 3 times more than the history of the program

-He's made it to:

Rd32 9x

S16 5x

E8 3x

FF 1x

Title 1x

-This was all done after taking over a program left for dead, no pun intended, and already having no history or athletic support. Remember the team had just had a player murder another player before Drew took over.

But he likes Jesus too much so we can't be having that. Good grief people.

He was great for Baylor, (might be waning a bit) it’s where he should stay…just like BK, should’ve retired at IU.

I don't think anyone stated his religious preferences were a reason not to hire him. Rather, he and his family are in a likely optimal spot at Baylor and *they* might not want to go to IU.

The only complaint against Drew is the loosely factual scenario where he (maybe?) threatened Hanner Parea with deportation if he didn't go to Baylor.

Go back a few pages. Someone posted about just hiring a normal coach specifically mentioned religion. Can't remember who it was.

It was.  Coach was Dave Bliss and he attempted to frame the victim after his death to make it look like the murdered player was a drug dealer.  try to avoid the press looking at Bliss’ actions of paying players.

He was also an assistant to Knight right here at Indiana. Certainly didn’t follow Knight’s never breaking NCAA rules.

We should’ve hired him 4 years ago when we struck out on Brad.

I don’t have anything against old fogies, but come on man, let’s infuse some Youngblood into the system.

Yeah I had the same thoughts.

It kind of looks like he’s lost his fastball this season.

Yeah, I think he’s good but he could certainly wear out his welcome, will probably continue to have NBA options, his wife allegedly doesn’t want to leave the NE corridor — combine those two and what if the Knicks run off Thibs? — and what if his well-regarded assistants don’t join him? Or get head jobs themselves?

I think it’s all moot

My obligatory defense of Hurley as his #1 fan on this board

He did not do as good of a job in the portal as he had to for a 3 peat IMO. Mahaney from St Mary’s has been mostly a dud with a few bright spots. No Cam Spencer replacement. That’s been McNeeley, who also is the Steph Castle replacement. He is a key player for them and has been injured for a few games. Karaban who they also rely on has been dinged up too. Their perimeter defense is worse this year than the past 2. If they got a guy like Koby Brea at Kentucky who they were in on they’d be looking much better. I forget who else but there was a very good PG they were in on and Hurley supposedly chose Mahaney over. So miss there.

And they got Tarris Reed from Michigan in the portal. He has looked good, but he’s not Clingan and the duo with Samson Johnson just doesn’t work as well. Johnson is a decent but frustrating player. I like Hassan Diarra but same thing to an extent. They got a highly rated freshman guard Nowell but he has only really seen spot minutes. Fans have wanted to see more of him. Hurley has been bringing along Ross and Stewart, two wings / stretch guys who should be good contributors next year. Them plus Karaban, sophomore Nowell and if they can get Solo Ball to come back + their freshman class, they’ll be right back in it. IMO he missed last portal cycle but hasn’t lost his fast ball. He will have a good roster next year, had bad injury luck this year and still wouldn’t bet against them making a S16 in a down year even if they’re an 8 seed or lower.
