I want no part of Beard under any circumstances. Too much baggage and too many unanswered questions about his past for me.

What else is there about Beard besides what happened while at Texas?  Others have alluded to it and say there are other skeletons in the closet.  I’m not doubting it, but genuinely curious.

There was only the domestic violence in which the charges were dropped.  Now I don’t know exactly what happened and I guess most on here don’t know either.  There are always 2 sides to every story and I know Beard can coach and I think we should leave it up to Dolson and others to do their due diligence to determine if Beard could work or not.  Let’s let him decide!

Risky was hiring a 60 something head football coach from James Madison.

McCollum will be insanely successful when a P4 school snatches him up.  Would not be surprised to see Iowa 'retire' Fran just to hire him.

I also think he’ll be the next head coach of Iowa.

But you didn’t pose the question “Could McCollum be a great success?” If that was your question, the answer would be a simple “Yes.”

Instead, you posted about Beard being risky. As Demo said so well, Beard is almost zero risk as a winning coach but a real risk off the court.

McCollum? He has never even coached against a ranked team, never has been a player, assistant coach, coach, or even a grad assistant at a P5 program, and has never beaten a top 40 team. Cignetti was a top assistant for Saban. McCollum would be the equivalent of hiring a younger Geno Auriemma; dominant at a completely different level; never even tried it at this level.

THAT is risky.

I'm not aware of anything else... but something that egregious, even once, and even recanted is enough for me to say "no thanks". Clearly there was enough to it for Texas to dismiss him... he walked away without a fight/argument - to me that's telling, as well.

There are plenty of quality guys out there who can coach a college basketball team, and coach it well... It's too big of a risk for my part... I would not put my daughter in that situation, and would question those who would.

I think McCollum is as good a basketball coach as you are going to find but I don’t think that means he is the guy for IU this particular cycle. In an ideal world where the program was already rolling and looking to hand over to a great coach for the next 20 years, he’d be close to perfect for me on paper. But the time horizons seem off because he’d absolutely need a few to several years to learn the ropes at a big program like IU. There’d be a few learning curves. Don’t doubt he could figure them out but it would take him probably the better part of a decade. So while I think he’d be successful here long term and wouldn’t hate the hire (in the very unlikely scenario it gets to him) I think we get a bigger fish with some more name recognition who probably recruits at a higher level overnight so we can start winning big hopefully right away.

There’s more in that closet than just that situation but I’m not getting into it because I’m not 100 percent sure the details on it

You'll be in a tough spot if we hire him.

I feel strongly enough about it to walk away, as well.

Not sure I have to worry about that... He won't be coaching at Indiana...

I get that and respect what you just said.  Also, none of us know all of the details which is why I think we should leave it in Dolson and staffs hands.
