NBA playoffs don’t start till the middle of April. Can’t see a GM leaving a good team before or in the middle of a playoff run if you are hoping for Stevens.

If Brad truly wants the IU job, I could see him leaving easily.

If for some reason he left and Boston went on to win it all, he would get the credit and still get a ring

Realistically how much work is there to be done by the GM after the season’s trade deadline?

Yeah at that point your roster is set. I think I might be moving May ahead of Brad on my wish list, though. I just don’t like the way we have to beg and plead with him to take the job. I want someone who wants the job. I don’t think that’s Brad. If it was, he’s had plenty of chances to take it. He not only didn’t take this job, he also left the coaching job he did have for a front office role. Give me a grinder and let’s roll.

I’ll be thrilled with either.  I think they’d both kill it here.

Yes. Obviously. Anything could happen. People have free will, situations could change. There’s no guarantees in life. But I believe what I’ve been told. I know the facts about what has been done and we’re preparing to do are in place right now. And if it does happen to go a different way unexpectedly, I’m very confident and happy with our “miss” scenario. This is much different than ‘21 replacing Archie. Coaches were looking at IU and saying I’ve got to go in there and be successful with those players, and even recruit some of them to come back - and I need to be competitive year one and two. NIL wasn’t in play yet. Flipping a roster wasn’t a thing like it is now. A coach now says, I’ve got more resources than almost every team in the country and will be able to get whoever I need to fit my system. And I get to be a hero for one of the most storied programs you could choose from. We had to scramble last time and heard “no” more than thrice. This week we’ve got major names in coaching reaching out to express interest. So yes. Objectively, we might get another kick in the dick. But I feel good right now we have our guy. We can’t miss this time. I myself am excited. All is good.

Thanks

If we do miss, do you think May is next, and if so, do you believe he’d take it?

It’s not about as much as he built a legitimate contender and to see it through. Has a GM ever left under these circumstances? Seems like Stevens and the Celtics have been a match made in heaven.

It would be a lot less disruptive for a GM to step away during the playoffs than a coach.

I’d be happy with him and I think he’d do very well. I’m just kinda tired of hearing about him at this point. He keeps rejecting us for the prom and we keep showing up with a bigger bouquet begging him to change his mind. I’m ready to find the guy who makes us forget about Brad Stevens.

Winning 69% of his games at Iowa State, 65% career win pct... 47 years old... 2 Sweet 16s in 3 years at ISU.

I don't disagree that he's a solid candidate, but I don't see how that's more impressive than what May has done.

And I feel like a chunk of the fanbase is writing May off after one sub-standard half, but I'm willing to bet no one would be too impressed with TJ if they had watched ISU's last few games.

As for what GMs are doing post-deadline, probably some of the below:

1. Coordinating ops like scouting with coaches

2. managing waiver/roster stuff

3. self-scouting

4. draft scouting

5. long-range planning

6. Considering offseason plans

Also, my guess is Stevens would get a ‘25 ring if he left in March and Boston won it all.

I know.  With the interest it looks like we have, maybe he’ll realize it’s his last chance at it.  If he still doesn’t want it, then nobody can say Dolson didn’t try, lol.

Yes but realistically is the GM of the second seed in the east gonna leave a situation that by all accounts has been a match made in heaven. It’s highly unlikely.
