Rabby said that his agent is telling people he has no interest in listening to offers.

If we don’t hear about a Dusty extension or at least talks soon, I’m going to assume there is heavy smoke blowing in that direction.

It's laughable that you think THEY negotiated an easy buyout so he could jump ship to IU instead of making it easier for them to can him in the event that he didn't pan out. C'mon now

Different buyout. The buyout to fire him is 70% of his remaining contract, so around $11M now.

Dusty is in a good position.

At the very least he will remain at UM and get a multi-million dollar bump.

EDIT: RE “dollar bump”. My sincere apologies for using a word that rhymes with hump.

Stevens, May, and Beard are my top 3. Get one of them and I’ll be happy. Once we dip away from those three I’ll get concerned.

Stevens, Otzelberger and May for me...

Listened to a bunch of podcasts today to get a vibe for what national people are saying.

Two main things stood out - First, not a lot of faith that we’ll land one of the really big fish. Everyone talked about Stevens and it was split between making fun of us for even trying or saying, “hey, you at least need to make the call and make him say no.” But no one thinks we get him.

Second, a pretty interesting factoid I heard (which seems directly counter to the current belief) was that Otzelberger actually had his buyout substantially LOWERED this past offseason. It went from like $15 million DOWN to $5 million. I think it was Goodman who said that on Field of 68, but don’t hold me to that…Anyway, if that is actually true that is awfully interesting.

I’m not trying to debate the details of what happened and if he is okay to hire.  I’m just saying any big brand program, UNC, KU, IU, UK, you name it, will face issues hiring someone with his background.  UK looked at a lot of coaches in their search last year and his name never really came up.  It gets very complicated with him.  We’ll see what happens.

The fact that a number of  big time openings have come and gone and Beard has not been hired makes me think that there are still a number of questions unanswered... but after the last 8 plus years, this has to be a home run hire... we cannot take chances.

The national guys really don’t have a clue.  They are saying we won’t land a name simply because we didn’t the last few times.  Those were all really weird and unique circumstances.  The goal in those searches was never to go out and simply hire the best coach we can get.  There were so much politics, nepotism, racism, etc involved.

That won’t be the case this time.  Dolson is doing the search and I feel he can hire almost anyone he wants.  If we were ever going to land a big name now would be the time.

For as much as I dislike Badman he is plugged in and if he starts talking Otzelberger to IU I will generally believe that is the pick. I’d be super stoked if that is the case.

Yea, hopefully Scott can figure it out.  I say this a lot, but beyond Brad I have no idea who we should hire.  I’ve never met these guys and interviewed them.  I don’t know who translates to IU and who is Archie.  There is so much I don’t know and never will get to.

But, it’s fun to speculate and joke about the process as it plays out.  It’s also pretty stressful… it’s a massive hire.

I agree, I just think they HAVE to start negotiating soon now, and if we don’t hear anything, I’d be pretty surprised if it meant anything other than Dusty to IU is a strong possibility. He’s got more B1G wins in year 1 than they had wins period last season. They have to make a move with our job opening IMO.

There’s a natural tendency to be attracted to an @$$-kicking, hyper-intense coach that wins.

But it’s also true that for a seemingly less intense coach like Stevens or May to be this successful there needs to be an extraordinary competitive fire and work ethic, albeit one that may not be as apparent to the public.

"@$$-kicking" and "hyper-intense" don't have to be mutually exclusive character traits for a coach...

Here’s an easy example for Dusty May. It’s a short video of him coaching high school girls at a camp re: close outs. Developing techniques, not an angry guy, and extremely intense even though it’s high school girls at a camp:

Pathetic, feels the need to explain the why’s of his what’s when everyone knows true leadership is “because I freaking said so!”

I thought that the last time, then we whiffed trying to lay down a bunt.

So if we're going to shy away from "drinkers", nobody on our list will be coaching here

Clearly  you've missed the point... drinking is not necessarily bad. But abusing alcohol is. And what happens when one drinks can be life altering... and in the case of chronic alcoholics, disqualifying...

I also wonder at this point does Woody really want to win this one to prove a point, or does it not really matter that much to him?

Not sure it matters because I don't think he has the chops to get it done.
