General Coach Candidate News

Ok I don't want to get too deep in the weeds on this. I am in no way denying Beard's coaching acumen. He is one of the best coaches in the game.

BUT I find it very unlikely that a university that fired a historic coach due to multiple reports of physical violence would be ok bringing on a coach with a history of physical violence. Add in the alleged heavy  alcohol use (which Kevin Wilson also had and the university did not care for), and it seems like a very long shot.

Man, we were a really bad football team if you consider Wilson historic.

Stevens

Drew

May

Cronin

McCollum

I’ll be surprised if it’s not one of these guys.

In my 50 years of life I never thought I would say this...but if it's Drew I instantly become a fan of another school. I'm sure he would do fine, but the stories I've heard about that guy make my skin crawl. Quite possibly the biggest hypocrite in the lower 48.

Is there any specific reason people are brining up buzz? I think he’s a good coach but he’s also from Texas making 4.5 million a year already so I’m not sure why he’d leave

The Buzz buzz came from a conversation in the Mod forum. I posed this question to the mods that follow the national scene more closely than I do: who is the most mid “press conference” hire that you feel comfortable saying would succeed at IU? It’s a pretty broad question that had a few answers, but was just a discussion piece. Nothing that came from intel.

We’re so BACK! I’ve been crying for a coaching search ever seen Dolson announced Woodson was the new head coach. What a complete waste of four years for this Indiana program.

Nonetheless, here we are. These are the candidates I think you have to pursue.

1. Stevens

2. Wright

3. May

4. Pearl

5. Beard

Beard, with his history, I just don’t buy it. Yes, he’s a hell of a coach. But I just don’t know if Indiana wants that risk. They got rid of Kevin Wilson quickly for even lesser circumstances.

I don’t think we can take a shot of an up and coming coach, that’s just to risky at this point. It needs be a proven winner. Obviously Brad and Jay are “longshots”, but you have to make them so no with your best offer.

At the end of the day, I think Brad finally comes home and the basketball program is finally saved.

I feel like TJ Otzelberger has to be on that list.
Especially if this is true.

I just don't think Wright is a realistic candidate based on his own words, that said, if we are doing pure wish list and including him, my list is adjusted (I also do not think Pearl is in there this time after last year but I will include it):

1. Jay

1A. Brad

1B. Few

2. Pearl

3. Drew

Field.

I am not rehashing the reasons and I do not think he will be considered, but I will say this for Beard: if an extremely thorough vetting process comes back clear (it wont), and he has very strict moral clauses I could squint and see it i guess. I do not have to agree morally with a hire to root for my alma mater. I rooted for them every game despite knowing every win was bad for the FMW train.

That said, if any of the Number 1s actually get hired, I am gonna be insufferable as a MF around other CBB fans lol

Can’t see how UVA would even be a step up from ISU.

Agreed. I know that there are some posters that will argue and say that IU isn’t a top job, but I think that with our NIL budget we can attract legit coaches that can win here.

No on Buzz Williams.  Good coach, but too quirky.  Very much like Crean in that respect.
