General Coach Candidate News

It's more than that however. Arkansas is very much a basketball school. They love their basketball down there. Have you been to their arena down there? It's super nice!

The boosters have money. As AZ mentioned, they have Walmart money. Arkansas hasn't seen this amount of success in a while. They're not going to let Mussleman walk away. Frankly, Mussleman loves it there. The idea of coaches coming to Indiana because it's "Indiana" is blown out of proportion. We never would've hired CTC or Archie if "Indiana" is indeed a name you can't refuse.

100 percent accurate. No successful coach is going to leave a good situation to come to IU's rebuild. It almost never happens. Dolson did not line up anyone before firing Archie because that never happens. He had to move on from Miller because there might have been a mass exodus of players. Given that we just got burned by hiring a mid-major guy I cannot see that happening again. So probably we are talking a former player as the next coach.

The Iona campus is in fact within 30 minutes of the Westchester County airport fwiw. Maybe all the this Woodson talk is covering up something else.

I think it's Woodson flying in as you said.

There have been flights in and out of that airport the past two weeks. It's probably IU related or Cook related. Bloomington has several manufactures that are producing the COVID vaccines. It could be executives flying back and fourth.

So if this hire doesn’t work out... What happens next?

This hire will determine Indiana Basketball. If it fails, I think it's official that we are indeed done and the media was right. Indiana isn't a good job anymore. We could always come back.. but I don't think it's possible until we get that home-run hire. This was Scott's choice to fire Archie, it's his time to turn Indiana Basketball around.

As in he fails after 4 years or as in he does not accept the job. If the first we find someone that we should have hired this time as in the second we celebrate because he should not be the next coach.

I just don’t like the thought of having Woodson. It would be a real bummer.

Treesh looks like I'm going to spend the day agreeing with everything you say. If money is no object. If we are dealing with rich boosters then we should keep an eye on Nate Oats. Saban already is one of the highest paid coaches in sports. And his assistants make a ton of money. There's only so much Bama is going to pay a basketball coach. So if some rich IU guy wants to write a 12.5 mil Alabama buyout I think Oats would leave and would be a fantastic reboot for the program. He ticks almost every box that Dolson laid out and is only 46. I have no idea if a booster will shell out that much for another massive buyout.

I don't either. I might be wrong in my thinking, but I just do not think that we would get the results that we are looking for.

Exactly this. I guess I wasn’t clear enough. I have almost no connections in college but Arkansas happens to be one of them. I asked point blank, response from a close family friend and UA booster: “unless he has some weird fetish for IU, the Muss Bus is parked. We will match any offer, unless y’all go fully delusional and try to give him K or Cal money, in which case, good luck. Remember, we have dusty banners too.”
Muss is not realistic, unless as I said in my first post he has some connection or affinity for IU that’s not common knowledge. Which certainly could be possible and I would love.

I’m just not buying this Woodson talk. I could see them talking to him to make the “IU guy” crowd happy, but I can’t imagine he’s a serious candidate. I’m in the camp that Dolson is doing a pretty good job of keeping things tight lipped. Nobody knows anything so everyone is just grasping for any kind of information and running with it.

Well ill admit after the Stevens excitement, it really has put a damper on how I look at ANY other coach. Regardless of how much potential they may have. Just the truth. I will for sure root like hell for whoever Scott brings on though.

I was excited about the thought of Stevens, but also thought there was several other interesting/good candidates. However Mike Woodson, and a few of the others being talked about were not on that list or were way down that list.
