The catch-22 is if he makes a run or wins the tournament I think it’d be harder for him to leave.

But he's from Indiana and wants to save Indiana Basketball! :103:

That's the only real argument any media has had in defending him and I lump Bozich in with the media.
Oh he's full blown media now and that's why he doesn't like to rock any boats because he doesn't want to lose favor. That's my opinion anyhow. I like Bozich but take way less away from what he says nowadays.

Meh. I never said that he wants to do any of that. I have no idea what he wants. I just said that that would be the appeal for Drew to leave his comfortable job for IU, if the appeal is there.

Alex is a great person.  I grew up playing sports with him.  His dad is a great person too.

Sorry I was being a little judgemental. Since I don't know him I deleted my comment.

haha, no need to be sorry in the least.  We all have opinions.  They're a great family though.  I believe his mom taught with mine too.  His dad was always involved with his sports.  Just really good people.  I followed ITH for awhile but haven't been over there for awhile.

He seems to be happy with the fans there as he's been there for 14 years! He also seems to be pretty happy with his family in Texas. I mean.. to not leave a place for 14 years in this business is impressive.

It's longer than that.  He started coaching at Baylor in 2003.  This is his 18th year there.

I think that was a little bit different in that Roy was a North Carolina alum who was close to Dean Smith.

Right. But just a few years earlier, he had said no to UNC.

He certainly had an easy act to follow in the Matt Doherty experience.  While the guy who follows CAM will likely also have a pretty easy act to follow, I don't think IU is as an easy of sell to Drew as UNC would be for Williams.

Any way, I'll step out of the conversation as Drew simply isn't a guy I want.  But whoever (and whever) is our next coach, I'll be pulling and rooting for them.

It'll be a year of minimal watching for me, more than likely. Our games are a grind to get through. I find little enjoyment in watching Archie ball. Even the wins aren’t enjoyable a lot of the time. I just don't know why they would bring him back if the buyout money is there. Just look at his results:

     T-6th, 9th, T-10th, T-10th in the conference.

     Zero winning conference seasons.

33-44 record in the Big 10.

     0-7 against Purdue

     Zero NCAA tournament appearances

Worst recruiting class in the conference coming in.

We either fire him after this season or we fire him after the next one. Does Scott Dolson really want to go through another season like the past four? There's little reason to believe next year will be any better than this one. Waiting a year saves money but it sets us back quite a bit in recruiting. Firing him after this season makes the most sense, imo, because of the free transfer season we're having after this season. A new coach could step in this year and put together a good roster through transfers. Wait until next year and it'll be several years before we're competing again. Fan apathy will only get worse in that situation.

if 1) the money is there for the buyout and 2) no change is made, my conclusion would be either there's no one out there w/ sincere interest whom Dolson regards as an improvement, or there is someone but he's CURRENTLY unavailable for some reason.

not sure I can think of anyone who truly fits in the latter category (except perhaps the "dream-world" candidates) so I could see IU ending up now or in a year w/ someone like Fife--or another "up-and-comer" like A. Miller (Gates, Kelsey, etc). Even if the preference would be for an "established P5 coach" who theoretically would come to IU for more $$$ than his current gig. This time around, I fear even those guys will be considerably harder to get.

Two more than we’ve made during those 18 years ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think it’s football school time. This program is on the verge of being toast. :(
