Scott has a really good program there. A new basketball arena coming. His best recruiting class in 14 years (which worries me) is coming next year.

Why would he leave that for a train wreck? A couple extra dollars? He pays no income tax in Texas.

EDIT: I have Baylor losing in the Sweet 16 this year. Never trust Baylor in March!

The new basketball arena will seat 10,000 fewer fans than Assembly Hall. Baylor fans aren't passionate about basketball like IU fans are. I forget the exact story someone posted about their experience at a marquee Baylor game, but it was really interesting. Football is more important at Baylor than basketball. Bloomington is a better place to live than Waco, Texas, imo.

IU is a challenge, but being a successful coach at IU is way better than being a successful coach at Baylor. The why is really is: If he's content with what he has right now then he won't give it up. But if he wants more, if he wants the chance to coach at an all-time program and bring it back to life, this is his chance. Resurrect IU basketball and you're a coaching legend forever. That has some appeal to it.

If I'm thinking of the same story, it was something to the affect that whoever attended the game thought it was weird that everyone was still sitting in their jackets very close to game time, then there was an announcement made to "come on down" where people could fill in empty seats closer to the floor. Forde also mentioned going to a Baylor/KU game just last year and fans there talking up how great the atmosphere was. He agreed but emphatically said it didn't come close to comparing to Assembly Hall for a big game.

He seems to be happy with the fans there as he's been there for 14 years! He also seems to be pretty happy with his family in Texas. I mean.. to not leave a place for 14 years in this business is impressive.

There might be some appeal to bring back Indiana Basketball but it's just as likely he fails here. We have the hardest conference in America. Kids don't know where Bloomington or what Indiana Basketball is about. He'd have to start from scratch. Looks like his entire roster outside of three players are from the South. Recruiting would have to change.. does he have the magic Tom Allen has with pulling southern kids up north?

He's has yet to make the magical final four run at Baylor although last year and I guess this year they are suppose to?

Would be an interesting career choice to leave a final four program to a basement Big Ten program..

Andy Enfield was just named Pac 12 coach of the year.

I’m sure someone will disparage it for being the PAC 12. During the last search I remember someone suggesting that they weren’t excited about the idea of Mark Few because he was in the WCC. That is some aneurysm-provoking analysis right there.

The thing that cracks me up is everyone says hire a shooting coach. What about Enfield? No I don't like him. What was Enfield before he got his first head coaching job? A shooting specialist in the NBA for the Bucks and Celtics. He would help us right away.

Yeah that was me. The crowd did cheer really loud at one point when they had RG3 on the screen.

Chip and Joanna Gaines make Waco look great and maybe with Drew’s salary he can enjoy the best parts but I did not like Waco much. If he loves it there he should stay. We just don’t know and it would be foolish not to call him if the home runs guys say no.

I agree with all your points...

I just think if I was a coach, the #1 thing to me would be longevity, and if Drew doesn't get in trouble at Baylor, he will literally be able to retire there. I don't think money matters as much as we think it does because of diminishing margins of return.

But how does Drew want his legacy to end? As a solid coach who resurrected one of the worst D-1 programs all time, with probably a few Elite 8's / Final 4's (maybe even a national championship)? Or, as THE guy, from Indiana, who resurrected one of the most dominant basketball programs of all time? That would make him a hall of famer and a lifelong celebrity in Indiana.

I'm not saying any of that is likely, however, these coaches have egos, and with the current state of our program, playing into the legacy of coaches might be our best bet. That's what I'd do if I was Dolson, and I think its transferable to all of the big names we are after. Stevens? Heck, unless he wins 3+ championships with the Celtics (which, in the NBA, is virtually impossible without a top-5 player), his legacy will not even be in the same discussion than if he won ONE championship at Indiana.

The guys on the new Podcast on the Brink seem to believe we have another year to endure :( say it ain’t so

Let me guess what their reason was " IU won't want to pay the 10 million dollar buyout"! Was that close?

I will say that the Bozich kid has made a nice career off of his dad and IU basketball. Good for him, nice living if you can do it.

I find the same thing. Used to follow ITH religiously but it's extremely heavy on opinion. Once those guys pick a lane, they push it down your throat. I'm not of the opinion they have anyone "inside" the program, and it's nothing more than pure speculation. If 007 and Pap say there's a chance/we have the money, they're who you should listen to.

Basically. They weren’t saying it with certainty, just sort of “think he’ll be back.”

Thanks but I can't get anyone in my own family to listen to me so I even still take what I say with a grain of salt.

That's the only real argument any media has had in defending him and I lump Bozich in with the media.

really is the only argument. Crean had BIG championships and multiple sweet 16s that people argued as reasons to keep him.

Archie has absolutely nothing. 4 years is plenty, Lots of coaches get fired in year 4 when there have been no results.

Right they weren’t claiming any insight. My hunch, with just my eyes, brain, and the insight from this board (especially @Chris007 and @hoosierpap) is still that IU will lose Thursday and it’ll be Miller’s last game. But I accept that it’s no sure thing yet.

Give me Scott Drew. I'm of the opinion the last two years are more indicative of what he'll be going forward since he switched his defensive system up. The tourney is such a crap shoot. All it takes is getting hot once. Virginia can lose to a 16 seed and then go and win the title the next year. Having great regular season teams with Kenpom numbers capable of winning a title is much more important to me than having one final four run. If you have those great regular season teams, you'll make a run eventually.

What's the problem with an "NBA'ish" offense? Better than a high school offense yea?

Are you insinuating Archie even has a HS offense?   :)
