Hard to compare but I think it would be easier to recruit at IU if you got it going consistently.

I personally don't buy that. Cant think of anything that Indiana offers a coach that UL doesn't, other than maybe a better campus experience.

Sounds to me like he's simply just hearing what we have to say. I don't view the IU job as better than U of 6, I guarantee he doesn't either.

Yeah, if it came out that he 'worked' IU & the process for a raise and extension at U of 6, I wouldn't be surprised...

Only two years as a head coach at a place that's confused whether Cleveland is a city or a state...defend your pick sir.

Gates is going to Boston College.

Yeah I wouldn’t argue this a ton, though I think in both spots you recruit lots of IN and Midwest kids and if IU was cookin’ more of them might prefer IU.

Probably so and I admire @Stuhoo’s commitment to pumping him up. Hope he succeeds...BC seems like a tough gig to me.

James Franklin at PSU only hires assistants with hot wives bc that means they can recruit. I’d say Enfield can recruit. Lol
Gives the dad of top five players a job helps him to

DENNIS GATES DAMMIT (I get it—I’m on an island with this)

I try not to judge guys I haven’t watched and I’m fairly sure the last full CSU game I saw was coached by Kevin Mackey.
That’s been a couple of years, right?

Isn’t it probably more feasible that IU waits until April 2022 before firing Miller to pay the 50% buyout?

That being said, why would a coach like Stevens ever leave the NBA for a program that hasn’t won a championship in almost 35 years? Hell, they’ve only won 3 conference Championships in the last 20. A coach in a reasonably comfortable situation at a power 5 school would have to be crazy to come to IU. There is NO patience amongst the fan base or local media, despite being mediocre for most of the last few decades, and there is unbelievable pressure to win immediately. Pretty tough gig.. A guy like Dennis Gates or Dane Fife might be the best we can hope for.

Don’t fall for the “need to win immediately” story. It is the furthest thing from truth otherwise we would have had this discussion in year 1.

What’s your definition of “win immediately”. It’s year 4 and we are in 10th place, have not had better than a .500 conference record and this, the 4th year, is his worst conference record yet (albeit.....the BT is brutal this year). We have the same, same, same issues we had 4 years ago and rather than the fan base having “NO patience”, as you wrote, I think there has been a fair amount of patience considering the lack of progress,

My guess from what I heard was that his agent has made it known to IU he would listen to what we have to say.

Does the Ville still have possible NCAA sanctions hanging over their head (as if that means much these days :( ). If so, maybe that is why he would be open to taking off. OtherwiseI agree with other posters that it might be his agents way of getting more money from the Ville.
