How much of the DeVries hate has to do with people spending the past 2 months thinking it was gonna be Brad Stevens or somebody equally as unrealistic? He has all the makings of somebody who would be successful here, I don't get the hate.

I certainly don't hate him but it just isn't an exciting hire. He's a guy that did well at Drake and for a year at WV. Perhaps he'd be great, but there's nothing about him that fires me up.

It worked well for Bennett at UVA

It works well for a lot of coaches. It’s just funny that it was such a big part of Archie’s image—one of the few things he could communicate about himself—and he was such a miserable failure.

I don’t think he was on many people’s top 5 list when this search started and he was probably on very few people’s top 10s so I don’t think that is where the hate is coming from.

He wasn’t on many people’s top 5 or 10 because many of us are convinced there’s a real shot of Stevens, Donovan and Jay Wright being viable. So they temper their expectations / hopes with guys like Scott Drew, TJ Otz, and guys in that tier. But those kind of guys probably aren’t leaving. So you start looking at Collins/Cronin/Buzz/Brownells of the world and are unmoved… guys in the next tier were always going to be most realistic. Feeling disappointed about McCollum or DeVries is silly IMO and probably just means people got their hopes way too high for the job this actually is in 2025.

I don't know if you're joking, but this is a real possibility. First of all, someone tracked a plane to College Station TX yesterday. Why else would anyone go there? Also, Buzz seems to hop jobs every 5-6 years and this is year 6 at A&M. Not that I want him, but Buzz Williams is a real possible consolation prize if IU has not landed whoever they spent the past month chasing.

I think it makes more sense for it to be someone we haven’t heard much on. If both sides are in agreement and told not to say a word, then it probably is a mystery guy.

How about the fact that he is an actual winning college coach who is light years above what we have had the last 8 years?
