UPDATE (MARCH 18): With DeVries out of the picture at Iowa, the Hawkeyes will go full speed at McCollum. He was at the Iowa high school basketball state tournament last weekend recruiting.

I would think that if Thamel is saying he’s “not a candidate at Iowa”, that would lean more towards an extension?
Because if Thamel knows he’s not going to Iowa because he’s going to IU, wouldn’t he just break “Devries to IU”?

Yes...or he would say that he is a strong candidate for IU...

I would think Chester Frazier gets a serious look at the WVU head job. They all seem to like him a lot.

If someone took the job and was really successful quickly, which is very possible in the NIL era, wouldn't they be treated like a God in the most basketball crazy state there is given how long IU has been consistently mediocre / crappy?

And the downside is what? You're not successful fast enough or ever, so you get fired and leave a multi-millionaire??

It’s a process guys. Just be patient and let the process take care of this search. And for those of you who don’t understand the process, go back to the beginning of the process and start again.

It’s an entirely different situation really. Dusty’s already in a P2 conference and immediately demonstrated to himself and the admin he can be successful there.

I thought that before this news came out. I would not be surprised if he stays at WVU with a raise and more NIL. Iowa will turn to McCollum and  my guess is he will jump at it.

I think this is where all the Stevens, white whale, big fish rumors hurt the program. I appreciate the insiders as they have brought the goods on recruiting. But I said this before and I’ll say it again the insiders have never been right on the coaching searches. I’ve been around since before Sampson was hired and each times the insiders would throw out these rumors, and it was always false. But let’s not crucify them. Let’s just back the next coach. If it’s DeVries, let’s support him and the program. He is a damn good coach and would be our best coach since Sampson.
