I don't think IU put out the McCollum stuff. If he is interested in Iowa, it would make sense to leak that he is a top candidate at Indiana to push Iowa into making a move on McCollum. 

Not sure if that's the case, just saying that could be an explanation.  Goodman puts out these types of statements every off-season that don't end up turning into anything.  So we'll see.  

I'll take McCollum over Brownell everyday though.

Here's a question...

I'm a college bball journalist with a decent following...agents approach me to put out buzz about their coach, to get them a raise, extension, or for their desired school to feel pressure to make a move. But...with a little kick-back if it works to their favor. 

Think this ever happens?

This has been discussed I’m sure but if it’s gonna be a 3rd tier coach why not just Hire Alford? I’m sure he has great connections in Indiana high school coaching circles.I know he has been a pretty Average coach for the most part but I do think he could succeed at IU. I’m gonna get blasted I’m sure. I want to be clear he wouldn’t be my 1-3 choice.

At least if Dolson is caught with his pants down and richard in hand again, this time we'll probably end up with somebody who has been a college basketball head coach before and a HC more recently than 7 years before he was hired...

Only way you can really outdo yourself on that front is hire Isiah/Wittman/Turgeon.

I'd say Alford would be my choice before Brownell for sure.....but to be clear ... I don't want Alford

You don't have to pay them cash, the scoop is enough. Adam Schefter has made a multimillion-dollar career doing just this with NFL agents.

I have some experience in Media Relations, albeit not in college sports. Depends how you're defining "kick-back" 

Definitely not financial IMO... at least not in my experience. Trust is their currency.

Kick-back in the sense of, "you scratch my back on this, I'll scratch your back down the line" ... 100%

Well, per reports, they did not even give him time of day last two openings so I doubt he is even interested at this point...

Brad will hold off on telling Boston staff he is leaving until IU is out of tournament. Dolson and brad agreed it's not fair to the current players to make a distraction during the run. As I said earlier day after we are out we will make the announcement the following morning. Brad will also be in person for announcement. My guess is it gets leaked to shams night or early morning and he will release to public assuming dolson doesn't leak it before then. For those who love flight tracking look for flights to the night or very early am after we lose.

The tier 3 coaches, like Huss, still have something to prove.

Afford has already proven he can't sustain high-level success at a high-level institution. 

It's kind of like when IU hired Woodson. Look around. No one else wanted to hire him. Same with Alford. There's a reason he landed at Nevada after UCLA.

Hypothetically, if Scott Dolson had fostered a relationship with someone not currently coaching over years, had a deal or framework in place with that candidate, hired a search firm for cover/private comms/backups etc., and the candidate’s agent was his wife, it would probably look a lot like this search has.

I’m not positive that’s the case. But until some of our best-connected posters change their tunes, I think it’s still in play.

Not even close to being able to keep them however if they all stayed he would be at the top of the hot board if they had a year like they had the year before.  He had to move on as well.  ISU can’t pay what everyone that left ended up getting
