What's he supposed to say? lol If he's been contacted, so be it. That first line is a carbon copy of ANY and ALL coaches when approach about another job interest.

In addition, even if he REALLY DOESN’T WANT TO LEAVE, even rumored interest is helpful in getting more $ to stay. This is true in most jobs! Use the leverage.

Yeah, it’s the dumbest thing.  Nobody has ever admitted they were considering another job at this point in the season, but everyone asks and then takes these statements as gospel that they are staying where they are.  So silly.

I think Brownell's "rumored connection" to IU is born purely from writers speculating that he could be a candidate.

And that is for two reasons

1) He's had a couple very good seasons

2) He's from Indiana

and I would think about 90% of that speculation is because of No. 2. I obviously don't know for sure, but I have doubts that he is or ever was a serious candidate.

As much as I'd like to believe that, plenty of people have said he is actually a candidate.

Ding Ding Ding

You, Sir, have got it. Brownell’s only a candidate in a lazy, connect the dots sort of way. Would be utterly floored if he’s actually in play here.

Exactly - what idiot would say 'No Indiana has shown no interest and don't think they will' - an Agent would fire you as a client right on the spot if you were stupid enough to say that....

Mike Davis said his dream job was to coach in the NBA while coaching IU.

Plenty of people, with legitimate sources, has said he really is a candidate.

Idc what's normal, Idc what "their job is" ...... these questions are lame for a coach prepping his team for the postseason and having the best season of his career. So lame.

I thought the same thing.  This is exactly the kind of answer I'd expect from a coach focused on winning a conference tournament and going far in the NCAA tourney.

True.  I don’t remember that he was being asked about a specific job opening, but that was a rare exception, lol.

I'm all for considering a coach's won loss record for guesstimating how he might do for one's school, but there are so many factors that play into that record that can distort relevancy. Coaches who can put up 20 -25 wins a year, over several years, gets my attention. Teams that visibly, and statistically improve from October to March, show me the coach is teaching the game. Coaches who do both, consistently, regardless of conference, should have a good chance to succeed at IU.

Yeah 3 years a BYU in a mid major conference WCC only his last year at BYU when they moved to the Big 12 was a high major conference hence 1 year coaching in a high major conference before Kentucky hired him
Regardless I'm not sold on mccollum that's my bottom line. Somebody you are. I am not.

I don't have "love" for McCollum, though. That's the thing. I have watched Drake one full game all year and the highlights of two more games. IMO, you're generalizing your fear. You just want a good ball coach. Let's find one.
And yeah, of course, everyone has their own opinion, which should be understood getting on here.
Not saying you personally but all over social media people are falling all over themselves about how great mccollum is.

I'm probably going to be sorry I am asking, but in an effort to "take one for the board" I'll give it a shot:

Given that you think that a bunch of guys are beneath IU's status, which attainable coaches are you good with as the next hire?

Note ... I said attainable! So not Drew, Pearl, Oats, Golden, Self, etc.

You keep posting on everyone you don't like and why, but you have not responded to my question for you about which ATTAINABLE candidates you would be satisfied with.

So post about that maybe?
