I don’t particularly want Schertz, but I will say this—I saw Saint Louis play very early in the season and they were a train wreck on both ends of the floor.  While still not a great team now, they have improved more during the season than maybe any team I’ve seen this year.

In year 1, Schertz took a St Louis team that went 13-20 (5-13) last year to 18-13 (11-7) in the Atlantic 10, arguably one the top 2-3 mid-major conferences. They went from a 2P% of 49.6% (209th in NCAA) to a 2P% of 59.5% (4th). He’s got them shooting 3s on 50.2% of their possessions (good for 6th in NCAA) while shooting 35.2% (103rd). He had players at ISU shooting 38.1% from 3 the year prior. I’m sure he will be able to do the same or close in year 2 at SLU if he’s there. This type of play jives well with AH.

What he’s been able to do there, and what he did before at Indiana State (in arguably the worst city in Indiana) say more than enough to me about what he can do at IU.

Haha. I went down a dangerous path last night, as some of you may recall I posted on Chris Beard's weird X following/follower list several days ago. There was one notorious Indiana-based realtor who has recently followed Beard.  I've also searched various others, such as Ben McCollum. I can say with [low confidence] based on X analysis that Ben McCollum will be the next Texas Tech Red Raider HC. Would also like to predict that Adam Howard will be joining one of McCollum or Beard next season. Speculation!

I did get a text yesterday that would support Beard being the guy but it’s just one person, albeit someone that has a direct link into the current staff

Barnes was only there for four years and made the made the tournament three times. Brownell is at four times in fourteen years. He made it his first year and then didn’t make it again until his 8th year. He’s been somewhat better the past few years, but how much of that is due to the ACC being a shell of itself? He went 23-11 and 14-6 in the conference in 2023 and missed the NCAA tournament.

Brownells teams have went farther in the tourney than Barnes’ too. Ultimately those stats are supposed to reflect how crappy of a job Clemson is. To wit, Barnes left for Texas and immediately had them rolling.

I, like you, find it unpersuasive. I would probably rather the dice with a guy like Collins if that’s the route we’re going.

I have a hard time believing Steven’s would string them along for a month and then be a no.

It either is still Stevens or it never was.
Maybe we got strung along. Maybe it never was

Wonder if someone will be there to watch the game. I have heard he might

I see what is happening. Dolson flew to Clemson for the head fake, then hopped a plane to Concord, NC so he can meet up with BS in Charlotte. He told the donors to sell the head fake, but really he had his guy all along.

I think the mescaline may have just kicked in.

An advantage of McCollum:

His relatively low salary would free up a couple extra million per year for player NIL.

Not necessarily... I think those are different donors and different donor buckets... it's not a zero sum game... I'd expect some donors to pull their donations if it's not someone in the Stevens/Drew/Otz tier.
