I mentioned something like this earlier but then it hit me that McCollum doesn’t appear to be a money-first kinda guy.  Who knows?

I’m not a money guy either, but if someone is offering a chance at generational wealth to do the same job I’m currently doing I’m taking it without hesitation

I gotta admit. Mcdermott’s offenses are fun to watch. Offensive guru

I'll never understand the McDermott love.  Was a complete disaster at ISU.  Hed be 61 to start the season and is a very big dude.  Looks like a massive coronary waiting to happen.  We can do a lot better.

I still don't understand how some of you are surprised that other power conference coaches are not knocking our door down to coach here. Has the other hires in the last few years not prove to you it isn't likely you will get another top coach to leave their jobs.

Yes. If the attitude going into this is "power conference elite coach or bust" then we haven't paid attention to the state of college basketball.

Also, since everyone is getting a little worked out: Osterman did not say that IU is going to hire a mid-major coach. He said the history of these jobs are that they often go to mid-majors and here are some really good mid-major coaches. It was much less inside info and more "general college basketball analysis"

Well UK couldn't get their top choices or UL. UK probably has as much money as we do and theirq job is better than ours. Most coaches won't mess with winning or happiness so why would they leave their current jobs
Not likely but we sure had a bunch of crazy theories on here.

1. Dolson has his guy. 9 years and 90 million.
2. Dolson has 1a and 1b but won't ever get past 1b.
3. May has a small buyout so he can leave and take the indiana job. Also a clause in his contract.
4. Cronin is not happy with his nil situation. Wants a change

There are more but that's just off the top of my head

As great as McCollum might be is he immediately going to learn the Nil landscape and how to operate at the top level with agents and such.

He’d have to build a full roster in 6 weeks in the portal at a level he doesn’t have a clue about.

I guess Kelsey did a good job with it.

Man, I don’t know. I feel like we will have to reset our recruiting ideals.

Maybe that’s good. I don’t see agents and 5 stars looking to follow that until he proves himself at p5 for a couple years.

I hope Indiana is thinking this through. We are gonna have to recruit against the big dogs.

FROM DECEMBER 2024 (henceforth, thou shall not mocketh me nor the gentleman @Demo

And with some in-state ties? This guy is excellent and worth noting. Maybe @Uspshoosier is familiar; the resume makes me a big big fan of this guy:

Wow, Huss is going pretty deep in the weeds on someone’s part. Like it.
Gotta say, if and when an actual hiring process is live it is going to be entertaining as hell around here. Moreso than the last 2 hires, which were fun in their own rights. I mean, we’re 4 months out from there even being an actual opening and the 4 names being pre-pitched with the most frequency are: 1) a guy who 9 months ago 99% of fans had never heard of and was coaching in a 2K seat gym, 2) a guy who’s currently 11 games into a new job, 3) a guy who hasn’t coached in college in 10 years, hasn’t coached at all in 3, and we have been collectively punching ourselves in the face over for years, and 4) an almost comically corrupt dude in his mid-60’s who’s trying to leverage his son a job.

It’s gonna be insanity, which will be so much freaking fun.

I personally arrived at Huss as a viable choice and posted it, but I have absolutely zero notion that Alan Huss is on Scott Dolson or anyone else's radar.

However, Alan Huss' resume is truly outstanding, maybe/probably above and beyond the resume of either McCollum or McMillan. All three have absolutely crushed it at their current mid-major/D2 stops, but in addition:

  • Huss has very strong State of Indiana ties; the other two do not.
  • Huss has top tier prep school recruiting ties; the other two do not.
  • Huss played high-level D1 ball (at Creighton); the other two did not.
  • Huss has been a P5 top assistant for over five years, including at Creighton for multiple years with modern offense and some really successful teams. Neither McMillian nor McCollum have ever been at a P5 school; not as player, coach, grad assistant, nor as an assistant coach.

So admittedly, Alan Huss is purely an @Stuhoo invented rumination, but tell me why he is not an extraordinary P5 coaching upcoming candidate?

And let’s face it. Other than ego, how is 5 million a year that much better than 2. I mean, you can only spend so much money. And in a lot of these deals, you get millions even if you’re a failure and get fired. I just don’t think money matters to anybody making over a million a year.

Well, depending on where a person lives, close to 40% of that goes to taxes. Then there’s paying your agent and others in your circle.

People making large incomes certainly think money matters. They are trying to set their families up with generational wealth.  The difference between 1 and 5 million has a huge impact on the way people approach their lives

Obviously you're delusional .... (am I doing that right?)

1) You have to get him a GM type to handle all that. Have to. Take your salary savings and get the best person possible.

2) Weirdly, I would think Rice and maybe even Reneau are decent building blocks. Reneau can literally only be successful in defense that values positioning and contests. He’s not going to be a shot blocker or a big that can switch onto guards. If McCollum is this great pg whisperer Rice would seem to be a decent start.

A mid major at IU probably isn’t the move. If our system was Duke strong and we could funnel him the right players, sure. We don’t have that system in place and even with NIL mid major guy is gonna really struggle trying to find their way through learning what wins at this level.

Mid major talk at Indiana is crazy to me. Steep hill to climb. That guy better be the most self assured guy on the planet that knows their system will work at the highest level.
