People can try and convince themselves and compare McCollum to Dusty (which we’ve seen) or Stitz to a starter on a high major top 25 team…whatever to make themselves feel better about a potential McCollum hire…but yes, it would be a pretty underwhelming hire, of which hopefully won’t happen…because if it does happen then we missed out on multiple targets

Wes Miller was indeed a very hot name, so was the dude from FGCU…though I guess he had some slightly above average years at USC. Next year it will be a different name. It’s the same thing every year. Some mid major coach is the next sure thing. Some work out, others don’t. It’s not necessary for us to find out this go around.

I'd take McCollum over Brownell. That's not an endorsement of McCollum, I want Brownell about as much as I want Mike Davis back.

I've said, and stand by it, that IU cannot afford the risk McCollum just being the latest flavor of the month.

Among the things that stood out...a response to interviewing for jobs previously and not taking them and considering a piece of advice: "Only take a job that will let you be yourself." To paraphrase, do not take a job that will not let you run the program the way you want to run it. Would Ben McCollum think that IU, in its current situation, is a place he could be himself and run the program the way he wants to run it? Obviously, only he knows how to answer that question (if he was offered).

McCollum has stated before that he wants to be at places that give him the opportunity to win at the top of his league.

Hiring Archie Miller was a mic-dropping moment for IU athletic director Fred Glass, who needs to make like that dude from the Verizon commercial when he introduces Miller on Monday. Glass needs to show up for the news conference at Assembly Hall with a handful of microphones hidden all over his body, all ready to be dropped as he reads from the news release that announced the hire of Archie Miller on Saturday.

Yeah nobody’s perfect at picking the next such guy but I can’t stand when mid- or low-major coaches all get batched in the same bin. I promise, you’re allowed to form a nuanced opinion based on the evidence for each one!

I don't remember who it would have been, but my last gif used (Jeremiah Johnson nod) was the one I saw from one of our "insiders" years ago when they revealed Romeo was choosing IU --- so they've always been there.....but gifs have definitely increased lately
