Another BIG IF...and a very valid one.

These are the things we as fans just can't know. McCollum could certainly grow into the job. It's possible. Or it's Archie, who was physically incapable of handling everything that comes with being IU's coach. It looked like it was hurting him at times.

That's why it's such a massive risk at a time we really cannot afford it.

All of the conversations that we've been having about McCollum and how he would do next year and what kind of adjustments he would need to make in his coaching just shows how well Dusty did this year.

Yes, Michigan is fading a bit, but he's done an amazing job. He had to cobble together a roster on the fly. He had a major step-up in competition and he still finished top 5 in a major conference.

I think Dusty proved that IU needs a guy who can really coach. An Xs and Os guy. If you have somebody like that, they can win from the start. That's what IU has been missing with every hire since RMK (with the obvious exception of Sampson).

I would have no problem no getting a coach who would have to grow into the job a bit if I knew that IU's coach wouldn't be the worse coach on the floor every night. I wonder what that feels like? LOL

Take this in the context of the reality that McCollum could be an awesome, magnificent hire:

But comparing Dusty May and McCollum is like comparing apples and aardvarks.

  • Dusty May came to UM after having been to a Final Four - McCollum will not.
  • At FAU Dusty May coached against countless ranked teams - McCollum has not.
  • Dusty May had many years in D1 - McCollum has not.
  • Dusty May has been mentored by Hall of Fame college basketball coaches - McCollum has never been a D1 player or assistant.
  • Dusty May brought the starting center from his Final Four team with him - McCollum won't have much to bring.
  • Dusty May has real experience with the IU culture, fanbase, boosters, and Indiana high school coaches - McCollum has none.

They are so different.

I use a friend account because I'm too cheap to pay so I don't have posting abilities over there. But I think most people have an account over there because he is the best when it comes to recruiting

I personally have the account because it comes with Paramount+ and live at the Cleeter household cant survive without Paw Patrol and other shows on there for the kiddos.

100% agree. This is get it right time. Or risk losing the levels of fan, booster, and donor support that are keeping this program on life support. But I don't need to tell this group. We all know.

Edited to say that the levels of success we all aspire to are what's likely on life support. I don't think IU will ever be less than a mid-pack B1G team. But the window to return to long-term national relevance is closing fast.

Well I do recall someone early on saying dolson had 1a and 1b and we would not get past 1b. I assume he meant stevens and may.

I was happy to get an early jump on this search but by week 4 or whatever we're in I'm ready for it to be over

Me too. I'm exhausted with what's real, what's not, the trolls, the insiders, Goodman, Rabjohns, etc. Just give me Stevens already and let's get it over with. Carry on.

Agree "Grow into the job?" that doesn't exists is todays college hoops atmosphere. If he does get the job he will have a VERY low buyout and for a reason he's gotta win 20+ games in year 1 or 2 . If not where back here in 2027.

Have faith. Maybe we're not past our 1a 1b.

I really don't know why Beard is still being discussed.

Everyone said "if IU vets him and decides to move forward I'll be on board" and then IU vetted him and passed. Discussion's over on that front as far as I'm concerned.

Can we please just move on?
