In his entire basketball career, playing and coaching, Drake is the biggest school/program he has been around in his lifetime. It's not like he played or was an assistant for a high major and got to see what it's like running a program of that magnitude. That's my major concern. lillurk, Hoosier987, IU Prof and 1 other 3 1

But we've gone the up and comer route and they've all proven unable to handle being the head coach at Indiana. It's a risk and we have to stop that ****. Hire a proven winner who's been at big boy programs for the majority of their careers. Hornsby 1

HoosierMatty Posted March 9, 2025 Posted March 9, 2025 I think IU needs a brilliant tactician. Someone with a solid system and philosophy They don't have to be a Calipari bull **** artist to get recruits in today's game with NIL and revenue share. And honestly whoever is the coach we need to hire a GM to help with the portal. I would say anyone who takes the job and puts in the hard work immediately has an edge instate recruiting. The other aspect is personality and engagement with fans that's expected at a place like IU. I think as long as they can do that they don't have to be a big name or win the press conference. Which why if we strike out on the top names, and Beard isn't touchable,a McCollum hire might make a lot of sense. Yes it's a big risk but it can have a ton of upside. He won less than 70 percent of his games at Dayton. McCollum has won 82 percent of his games over 15 years. Won his conference 11 times and won national title 4 times. Yea it was D2 but if it so easy how come everyone doesn’t do it. The guy knows how to win ball games plain and simple. And he’s capable of adjusting. BannerVille, Shoes_N_Shorts and RoadRage 3

Ctf9 Posted March 10, 2025 Posted March 10, 2025 I understand the recent history—it’s hard even for a blue blood to hire a sitting P5 coach. (Let’s not forget that Texas did it by hiring Beard.) The optimist’s take is NIL and revenue sharing have changed the rules. The pessimist’s take is that they haven’t changed the rules that much—and also that Dolson has a fetish for experience and older coaches. This is what worries me the most: if he’s always been set on a “veteran” head coach and misses on the good ones, he might just hire a Brownell because it matches his “criteria” or something. And that is also what makes Goodman’s tweet so concerning. The more good established coaches say no, the higher the odds Dolson will stubbornly hire a mediocre established coach. The only one of those likely to leave are Will wade and beard and sure I’d take them over McCollum but there’s obviously other factors involved. Saying you’d rather have Collins who has 37% conference win percentage over McCollum seems silly but that’s just one guys opinion

Unexpectedflash Posted March 10, 2025 Posted March 10, 2025 I’m not even the biggest McCollum fan. Right now he has zero committed recruits. I know people bring up he’s winning with D2 players but those D2 players have been in his system for a long time. We’ve yet to see him have to recruit and replace players at this level. Despite that id still take him over Collin or brownell. Those two have shown they’re mediocre at this level Hoosierfanyuh, VFury and 8bucks 3
