Because that team had too many gunners on their team.     He would clearly be the best guard and be on fire one game and then the next game Blackmon or Brown would be gunning them up and he would only have a couple of shots

2 years ago he was a diamond in the rough and Painter was a sorcerer for finding him. But nobody ever talks about it when Painter has a recruit that just doesn't pan out.

Travis Branham is a good predictor, but that doesn't mean Battle to Ohio State is a certainty.  Portal predictions are harder to make than high school recruit predictions because things move so fast.

I don't know about diamond in the rough. He and Armaan Franklin were the two SGs of that class. Everyone here was saying how much better Franklin was and would be for IU... 4 years later... Well.. yup. Right situation and Newman can average 15+ ppg without any doubt.

Read a stat that made me rethink Kaedan Shedrick (I've posted that I wasn't that big of a fan).

Opponents shooting percentage at the rim with Shedrick on the court for Virginia:  48.3%.

Opponents shooting percentage at the rim with Shedrick off the court:  57%.

That's a huge difference.

On3’s prediction thing isn’t accurate. It’s all based on social media connecting a player to different schools. Not legit intel.

The times I watched Newman in high school . I was impressed . Wanted him more than Franklin . Had a hell of a game against warren central in the hall fame classic .

I saw him play three or four times in high school.  The jump he made from his sophomore to junior year was huge.  He really worked to get his jump shot where it was.

I’ve never said we are gonna suck. I believe I AM realistic and I could write an 18 paragraph post about too, but no one wants that. Lol.

My reaction yesterday was primarily based on DeLoach and how I don’t think he is a fit for us to be at the level I want us to be. Coupled with that, was 2023 recruiting efforts/results and the progression of a few of the recruitments we are currently in. (At the time, Timberlake, Shedrick, and to some extent Love (although that one is a blessing, I’m sure)).

I’ve been stating all year how big this off-season was going to be. I’m excited we are portaling. We need mature pieces that are college ready. I do “fear” what comes if we don’t hit it big and have a nice off season thus making the tournament.

I feel like the staff knows what we need to do, but it’s hard out there and it’s bidding wars central and with HOW much we need I’m concerned at the level of player we will get. But that doesn’t at all mean I think we will suck. I know we will get some good pieces. It’s the fan in me to project good fits and what not. To sense struggles if I feel we are having struggles. This is probably the part that angers so many I guess.

Todays summary:

 

Knecht zoom meeting. LOVE HIM. Likely my favorite target so far.

 

Ware. Maybe a visit upcoming. I like a lot about him. Would be worth the gamble to me.

 

Battle: maybe leaning tOSU? A little bummed. I like him better than

Ledlum personally but I could warm up to Ledlum and hope he’s a better shooter.

 

Dickinson: talking to UK.

 

Oscar: possibly to portal and now UK fans saying he got more of 3-4 mill in Nil.
