How about Dawson Garcia? We recruited him out of HS and he just entered the portal, transferring from NC. Long shot, I'm sure, but one can hope/dream.

No. No thank you. We should not volunteer to be his third team in three years. That may not be a problem, but it is a bonafide red flag.

Nah. We can’t risk the Hysterics getting all creepy on him again.

Love the character, just not sure he would be classified as a “great” get, yanno? He most likely wouldn’t even crack the starting lineup imo.

I’m pretty confident in my feelings that we need 1) A big if TJD and/or Race ends up leaving and 2) shooters to space the floor for X and JHS

My stance on him is simply that he doesn't really address a need.  He's a good defender, but we have defense.  We need shooters, bad, and he may not hit water if he fell out of a boat; he's shot over 34 percent from 3 once in his career and that was on his fewest attempts, last season was only 30%.

I cannot consider that a "great" get.  Until he actually addresses a need, hard pass and no interest on my part.

I think the attention that some what we could call 'mediocre' transfer players are getting from high majors says quite a bit about how this year's portal group isn't as good as last year's.

Also....is Virginia after every player we are after?

Hopefully the staff really understands our needs. We are recruiting another Trey Galloway. We have a Trey Galloway. We need a 5 that can impact the game (who doesn’t) or a 4 with range. Are we recruiting Dennis as a backup PG? Seems like a tough sell. I don’t get it.

Career 36.8% from the field and 34.4% from 3. Shot 35.3% from the field and 29.7% from 3 last season. :|

Beating a dead horse but we need shooters. This guy.. not a shooter. We also really need a scoring wing. This guy isn’t that either. Really hoping Trayce comes back because it’s not looking optimistic otherwise.

Sounds like we’re taking him or the Butler kid. One or the other can commit anytime. Sounds like the staff prefers Dennis first.

So you think some random people on a message board knows the needs of the team more than coaches.  Maybe they see the needs differently.

The capsule of his career shows that Dennis can have huge games.  It appears he is just inconsistent because there were plenty of games where he hit 3-5 3's in a game.

Me too

Dennis would be a great pick up. His expectations will be reasonable, his athleticism and defensive ability is outstanding, and he’s a great kid to add to the team environment.

He’s like Rob Phinisee if Rob were six foot five, great in the open court, and could jump out of the building. But he’s that solid of a teammate and defender. And he’s not going to make Tamar Bates think twice about his role on next year‘s team.

He has hit 5 or more 3s in a game 5 times. He’s played 112 college games. That’s 4.4% of his games. He made zero 3s in a game 26 times. He’s over 5x more likely to make 0 threes than he is 5+ threes.

He has 21 games in his career where he hit 3 or more 3s. That’s 18.8% of his games. Only 3 of them were last year, and only 3 of them were the year before. So, 6 games over the last two seasons where he made 3+ threes. Not really what I’d call “plenty.”

Often times I do, and based on Indiana’s results and roster makeup for years have proven me right more than wrong. Like I say, Dennis is a Trey Galloway who “likes” to shoot the 3. Better on D. JHS isn’t a confident shooter. X shoots 36% on wide open gifted looks. We gonna run with that 1-3? We’ll be hell on wells on defense I suppose.

Lmao. Why is this always your response whenever anyone questions the staff? We were 13th in the conference in 3pt percentage and dead last in 3pt makes. We lost our best 3pt shooter. Parker Stewart made 26% of our threes last year. What’s the coaching staff doing to replace that loss?

There is a difference between 'knowing what a team needs' and being able to get it.  I'm pretty sure the staff isn't turning down any 50% three point shooters that say they wanted to come to IU.

I actually prefer the Butler kid because we get him for 3 years. But either makes us more athletic and that’s Woodson goal.

I feel like the Butler kid has a higher ceiling but far far greater expectations for his role on the roster. Dennis is a perfect fit as the seventh or eighth guy in our rotation.

That could be true. Doesn’t make a difference to me. In some ways, it’s worse than not knowing what we need. Miller Kopp unfortunately, seemed to fit our need but never performed to the level we needed, and still started virtually every game of the season.

If Dennis is content to be a backup guard, then Stu is right, he’s the bigger, tougher Rob Phinisee. I can live with that. If he is our new answer on the wing, I’ve got huge problems with that. Give Bates and OG those minutes.

It's worth pointing out that Parker Stewart made over half his threes for the year by December 18th......he had more threes in the first 11 games than he did in the last 23.  The Parker Stewart in conference play was a 35/36/58 shooter.
