rcbowla Posted April 12, 2023 Posted April 12, 2023 An outstanding Hoosier Hysterics podcast with Coach Ya is now online. Of course, he cannot talk about specific portal recruits. However... Some interesting first best quotes takeaways from Ya: On IU portal recruiting: "This portal has been a lot. But, we got something to smile about today, and hopefully in the next couple of days and in about a week or so we'll have some more to smile about." On choosing who to recruit from the portal with NIL: "There are guys in the portal that are just looking for money. They're just straight looking for money. They don't care about winning...That can't be the primary reason you're coming to Indiana. At the end of the day, like everybody else here you're trying to hang a banner. You've gotta have the right type of people here to hang a banner." On the current portal structure: "Again, it's a necessary evil. You can either complain about it and lose, or hey; it is what it is and try to go get you some players and figure out how to construct your roster." On the coaching fraternity's internal discussions: "Most coaches are walking on eggshells because they have no idea what is going to happen to their roster. None of them. And the mid-major coaches especially. They're just, they're terrified." On Malik Reneau: "Obviously, Malik, he told us early; coming back." Don't know why but that last quote put a smile on my face. Humility and loyalty from MR. I mean obviously it helps when you see yourself being a major contributor on next year's team but still. Plus a GM to run things. "Free agency" hit college basketball without the necessary support structures. NVFalcons1990, pumpfake, CSP and 1 other 4 Quote

Loaded Chicken Sandwich Posted April 12, 2023 Posted April 12, 2023 Yea I don't actually see Catchings decommiting, reclassifying and committing to IU. Would be cool, and I think he could start at the 3 day 1, but it ain't happening y'all. Focus on Ledlum and Knecht. NVFalcons1990 1 Quote

What do you mean, "it ain't happening y'all" what isn't? But no, I don't see Kanon being any sort of a contributor Day 1, if he were to reclass. lillurk 1 Quote

Don’t know why I would play for a coach that is looking to be fired, my 2 cents, hopefully we can get him on campus. Artie86 Posted April 12, 2023 Posted April 12, 2023 A guy like Matthew Cleveland, coming in somewhat late to the portal is pretty impressive. Some teams may be thinking, "Dang it, I'd really rather have that guy!" A player of his caliber could really add to any team. He will definitely get a number of suitors. lillurk 1 Quote

I was kind of thinking this...that's why I'm not mad IU hasn't filled all its spots up like Michigan. As much as I'd love to land Knecht and/Or Ledlum, if someone as talented if not more wants to come to IU that is fine with me. Quote

Yep.....We as fans only see things on the "surface level", but I'm sure our coaches have been kept in the loop through various levels of connections. Stuhoo 1 Quote

Cleveland is intriguing but I'd rather have Knecht. Cleveland averaged around 14 and 7 and is 6-6, only averaged 2 3PA a game so his 35% is a small sample size granted a big jump from his first year. 3 years left, I wouldn't want to tie up too many scholarships for the 2025 class though.
