TBH, the Archie-Wikipedia thing disappoints me. The guy wasn't a cheater like Sampson or a schmuck like Crean. He came here and worked his a$$ off -- for myriad reasons, it just didn't work out.

Taking shots like that is petty and unnecessary.

Fans wonder why a coach wouldn't want to come here -- that's why.

I disagree he worked his a$$ off.  The previously posted article with quotes from is first press conference regarding an up tempo offense etc. is exactly what he didn't provide.  Why?  That is completely on him.  If a future coach is going to be butthurt over a truthful wiki page, then go coach D3.

Most coaches would probably smirk if they read that. It kills me how this fanbase thinks coaches are too sensitive to want to deal with us.

Unnecessary, true. But it happens at just about every school.

A good coaching candidate would give zero sheets about some knucklehead on wiki.... There are knuckleheads everywhere.

At the end of the day, most coaches work their azzes off. They are paid a lot of money to do so. There are lots of things to point to, but at the end of the day, it just didn't work out. I think it's fair to say that perhaps Archie just bumped his head on the ceiling stepping up to the Big10.

Any coaching candidate that would be frightened away by something like that is soft anyway, and we're better off without them.

Somewhat agree with this. Most big-time coaches know that fans are idiots but you have to deal with them as part of the job.

You've been on here long enough to know we have idiots among us. Not talking this board, talking about IU fans in general

Yeah, I know - just my Monday morning failed attempt to be humorous.

They don't have to be the same. You can work your @$$ off and not have success. Or you can be terrible at your job and fail up like a lot of people in this country do on a daily basis. Have people I know that have worked on this staff, attending practices myself, I know for a fact he has worked his @$$ off. Results just have been terrible.

I know very few people who work hard and are not successful.  I suppose working hard, doing the same thing, and expecting different results -- well that's insanity, right.

Shoot, I hardly work at all!  I tell my boss all the time that I'm on cruise control.  Then again I only make 3% of Archie's salary

I guess you don't know many college basketball coaches? Or football coaches? Or just, coaches? I suppose it depends on your definition of success. But looking specifically at college basketball coaches, I'd guess that the overwhelming majority of them are seen as extremely hard workers. But a very significant percentage are not successful.

I really don't think he tried hard enough. He tried too hard to make a terrible system work.

I don't hate him personally, I hate the results. I assume he has given it his best and that simply hasn't been enough. So time to move on.

Same with Crean. He was a little odd, but I didn't mind that, until it became obvious he wasn't capable of consistently winning.

WITHIN LIMITS I can tolerate an @$$hole, smarmy, boring or whatever coach. They aren't going to be my best friend so Just WIN.

There is a poster on the other site who works with Henry's Dad. He says that Henry's Dad told him that once Hunter and Damezi committed that IU stopped calling them.

Sincere question, do we think any individual, or even group of players would have mattered? IU has had some talent the last few years. Certainly flawed/unbalanced rosters, but would Henry or Garcia or fill-in-the-blank have made Archie a success? I doubt it. More wins, no doubt, but IU doesn't just seem to be a player or two away from being there. It seems like a mess and Archie appears to be at a loss on how to correct it.

Yes, I think having Aaron Henry in the starting lineup over Durham would have made a massive difference this year. Archie has his issues as a coach, but the biggest issue is that there are 2 starting guards who likely wouldn't start at any other school. Replace Rob and Al with McKinley Wright and Henry, and things look a lot different.

If you only define success via wins and losses, then yes by defitition only a small majority will be considered successful (someone has to win and someone has to loose).  And maybe they are working hard putting the time in, a la Archie, but not working smart?
