5’11” in shoes? I don’t remember, my bad. He was undersized. It was never a guarantee he’d make the league.

Thomas Bryant’s ability to play out on the perimeter and shoot from the perimeter absolutely developed during his time at Indiana. I’m not saying he was a 3-point specialist or the best, but it was a new element to his game that w developed and definitely aided his draft value.

Morgan showed flashes but truly put everything together under Miller. 

I'm certainly not here to dance on anyone's grave, but (and I'm in complete agreement with you), but I know one of his former players pretty well, and the area of "player development" was low on Crean's list.   His "x and o" library was large and he demanded effort; but he was not a developer of players.   

Having said that, the scope under Crean was to bring in talent and stockpile it every year; so there really weren't many 4 year kids who came in one player and left another.   We'll see under Miller.  Damezi Anderson needs to develop.  Some of that's on him, some on Miller.  Same with Justin Smith.   

I have been as hard as anyone on Green, and I saw real development in him last year.  To the point I'm really rooting for him, now.  It was like a light went on in February; and I saw a completely different player (still with similar skills, but the details - angles, etc - and decision making were FAR better).   To me, that's at least partially on Miller and his staff.

Skill development?  Jury's out.  DeRon Davis' back to the basket game improves?  Durham becomes a more effective shooter/scorer/defender?   Smith and Anderson show progress (as examples)?  I'll be very happy because all 3 freshmen next year and I suspect the 2 this season will need some development as well.

After years of criticizing him, some IU fans just can't bring themselves to admit Crean had any good qualities.  Obviously, there weren't enough to justify keeping him as IU's coach and IU is better off with Archie. But the fact is Crean was able to spot talent in players that others missed and several players (Oladipo, Bryant, Anunoby, Wade) developed well when he was their coach. I"m not sure why it matters now. Archie is IU's coach and it remains to be seen how well players develop under his system. Hopefully, we will see some real improvement this season with key players like Justin Smith, Durham, Green, and others.

Show me where this is accurate.  Show me where some fans have indicated he was 100% "bad."

Thomas Bryant was a 5 Star Talent that got drafted in the second round. Why are people now claiming this was an example of Creans development?

OG was an unfinished product drafted based on where Pro Teams thought they could take him not where Tom Crean took him. 

As already stated Oladipo was self developed. 

So your left with Wade. 1 guy, developing one player does not make you great at player development.  Otherwise Lebron James High school coach is the greatest ever.

I thought Crean did really well with Sheehey, Oladipo, Watford, Yogi, OG, amongst others. There are others I think he did a disservice to like Tom and Blackmon. Sometimes player development isn’t as much reaching new skills as it is changing a mentality and I thought he didn’t do a good job with those two. Maybe even Cody but Cody was still drafted in the top 5 so it’s hard to say even with a weak draft IU and Crean did nothing for him. But I have yet to be around a leader that had zero impact on me that I spend 40 hours a week for years on. If you guys have let me know what that’s like. I have no clue. But how is Crean having an effect on Jordan Geronimo?

What amazing progress! It only took a little over a decade for Crean to get a little credit for developing Wade.

And it’s great that we should have the depth to allow him to figure things out his first year or two. We should be solid on the wing for the foreseeable future. I’d love to see a Geronimo - (Jr) Hunter in a few years at the 2/3.

Old Fart, I hope you can track down plenty of game reports on Jordan’s senior year. As a guy just becoming self-aware, I’d bet there will be a big bump in production.

So do I.  Getting harder to do as local newspapers keep shrinking staff and instead of going out and getting stories wait for the stories to be delivered to their door.  I've got some potential sources targetted and we'll see if they pan out or not.  His season opener is this coming Saturday.
