incrediboy Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 I voted "bad hire" and my logic is: He has no track record of success, just a reputation of being a brilliant, up-and-coming young coach. I'm reminded of the San Francisco 49ers in the '90s, a powerhouse franchise under Bill Walsh and George Siefert. They had this "great young up-and-coming coach" named Steve Mariucci. Rather than lose him to another franchise, they ousted Siefert. Mariucci proceeded to lead the 49ers to mediocrity. At least Crean had a Final Four on his list of credentials. What does Miller have? I hope someone can alleviate my distress over what I consider at this point a thoughtless hire. Quote
OliviaPope40 Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 I say we give him a chance before we start complaining I mean today is a new day with a new coach and he hasn't even coached a game yet. FortWayneHoosier, Class of '66 Old Fart, GloryDays and 2 others 5 Quote

He's won back to back conference titles and has averaged 26 wins per season over the last for. He had an elite eight at Dayton versus the final four that Crean had (when he had Dwayne Wade). C'mon. So, so many different factors influence whether or not a coach can be successful, especially when you compare professional sports to college. You and I both know that for every situation where a young up-and-comer turned out poorly, there are probably plenty of examples of them turning out well. Time will tell. thebigweave 1 Quote

Alford Bailey Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 Very good hire. Im in the Dayton market and have watched quite a bit. Very good in game coach and I think he will draw recruits. Best available minus Stevens and Donovan. schoosier, Justin Kotter, mdn82 and 4 others 7 Quote

RTJ85 Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 Solid hire. Not the name everyone wanted, but could be exactly what IU needs. Dalton26 and HoosiersLoveBanners 2 Quote
hoosha61 Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 Good Hire. He's young and hungry. Hoops lifer and son of a coach. His teams play hard and DEFEND, you know that thing where you try to stop the other team from scoring. He is well respected by his peers. I'm very optimistic. #GoHoosiers scots07, Alford Bailey, RTJ85 and 3 others 6 Quote
Walking Boot of Doom Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 He has potential and it brings optimism back to the team. We had seen Crean's ceiling, and it was a toxic environment. Should be a fun ride. We'll see if he can perform like his older brother. I'm optimistic (as always). Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Quote

Class of '66 Old Fart Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 The hype surrounding the potential Donovan hire was so overwhelming it's hard not to feel just a little bit let down. But on the other hand, it could have been Alford (shiver). He's our coach and I'll certainly support him in the short run and hope that he's another coach plucked from a much smaller stage, i.e., RMK, that can restore the IU brand and image. Welcome Archie. Make us proud once again. pumpfake, southsidehoosier and theriverpilot 3 Quote
