Bailey7878 Posted March 3, 2018 Posted March 3, 2018 I've seen Rob play a couple times. I know my expectations are a lot more than his "rating" but I truly believe he's massively underrated and will be a fan favorite here. We cannot expect Rob and Anderson to come in and basically field the load at guard as frosh. We are is desperate need of another shooter and a grad transfer guard. Having green play 30 mns a game doesn't make me feel at ease either. That assume he stays. Durham is serviceable but can't shoot. Right now we look shaky at guard. That needs to change. If we want to win, we need a kid with that killer instinct. I think another offseason with Archie is going to make this kid shine. BGVille Hoosierfan Posted March 3, 2018 Posted March 3, 2018 You're comparing Phinisee who wasn't even a Top 100 HS player to Yogi who was Top 25 and a burger boy. Yogi was very good. Even as a freshman. We should be happy if Phinisee is half the player.I don't put a lot of stock in HS rankings...I understand Yogi was rated higher and was/is a better player than Rob but what I'm saying is he is going to be a true floor leader and starter from day 1 and most likely for 4 years just like Yogi. He's an all around winner and a pg who looks to get others involved first but if he has to score he can and has shown that especially his senior year. I watched Yogi play at Park Tudor and I've seen Rob play in person and I can guarantee you he is HIGHLY underrated and will be more than half the player Yogi was/is...we are extremely lucky he chose to come here instead of stay in West Laffy trust me! He'll make a world of difference from Day 1.Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app ALASKA HOOSIER, thebigweave and Crimson and Cream 3 Quote

We should be happy if Phinisee is half the player. The difference between a Freshman Yogi and a soon to be freshman Rob is Yogi had one elite trait in his quickness. Shooting wise Yogi was man made by his Sophomore year. Vision is pretty much a wash (both are pretty good). Handles were similar. Rob has some size on him coming in v Yogi. That elite trait got Yogi his ranking. Rob has sort of improved year over year. He will score more as a Frosh. I am pretty sure Rob will be fine. But as someone who has saw him yourself and not just banking on the ranking I am sure you will agree. Edit: I would be more than comfortable saying Rob can average 7.6 points and 4.1 assists with 2 turnovers per game as a Freshman. It’s the other 3 years I am not sure he can match what Yogi did. HoosierAloha Posted March 3, 2018 Posted March 3, 2018 If Archie is the coach I believe him to be and Green WANTS to be the player he thinks he is he'll contribute next season. He has the tools sans mentality/maturity. I really hope he sticks around. I believe he can be the starting pg on a top 3/4 Big Ten team. Class of '66 Old Fart Posted March 3, 2018 Posted March 3, 2018 If Archie can rein in Green’s NY streetball mentality, I want Green to stay. If not, then I’m not overly confident Green’s not more of a liability than he is an asset. Quote

Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile appCould be one of those feel good stories for a player and coach greens senior year. Player wanting to transfer after coaching change decides to stick it out with new coach and by his senior year he leads team to a deep tourney run or he could transfer and get a fresh start. Chris Chiozza almost transferred after Donavan left but decided to stay with White. Now they have a special bond and he is the all-time leading assist leader for Florida Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Bobman1, Stuhoo, HoosierAloha and 6 others 9 Quote

Old Friend Posted March 4, 2018 Posted March 4, 2018 1) There is no way Green can go anywhere in the country, lose a year of eligibility, and do any better or have more opportunity than he will here. Street ball and college basketball aren't even close to the same game. The difference between the two is staggering; and any player who's played for a coach who's good at game planning will tell you the discipline and attention to detail required for success are completely unknown to players who have come from un-structured environments. Green - to succeed anywhere - has to learn how to play within a game plan and take care of the ball. Regardless of where he goes or if he stays at Indiana; that's a truth he has to embrace. There is a place for individual skills to rule the day. No question. He needs to perfect the combo. Simple as that. 2) I think it's foolish to compare Phinisee and Yogi until we know what talent will surround RP. Yogi as a senior was the go to. Somewhat as a junior, too. RP may never be. But I'm here to tell you he is every bit as good, if not better as a point guard. He may never be as strong; and may never get the number or quality of shots Yogi got in Crean's system. But he is at least as good. Time will show it. I have no doubt. RP is an explosive athlete. You didn't always see it and he didn't always show it; but he is. RP wasn't as high profile as Yogi (hell, Yogi was national news as a 5th grader); and his AAU profile isn't as glossy. But I think anyone who follows this game will agree rankings, once you get past 20-25 or so, are generally meaningless. There are too many examples of successful players who were unranked; and too many flops who were. It depends on system, opportunity, development, and myriad other things. Those who don't yet know Phinisee's game will be pleasantly surprised. Str8Hoosiers, Jam, woodenshoemanHoosierfan and 4 others 7 Quote
8bucks Posted March 4, 2018 Posted March 4, 2018 To be fair - yogi had a strong freshman year then was kind of meh as a leader until Blackman got injured and Dakich called his D and effort out on TV. That seemed to light a fire with him and he finished out strong. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners MoyeNeeded, ALASKA HOOSIER and BGleas 3 Quote
Bailey7878 Posted March 4, 2018 Posted March 4, 2018 I guess the expectation of many is rp will step on campus and be yogi from day 1. Wow I hope he is ready to live up to incredible expectations. Very rarely are frosh point guards expected to do this but I guess rp is. He ranking must be off 80 plus spots.Sent from my SM-J700T using Tapatalk Quote

Walking Boot of Doom Posted March 4, 2018 Posted March 4, 2018 I’m expecting RP to step on campus and be a marked upgrade as a floor general over Newkirk. Yogi comparison is tough to even think about. Yogi started immediately playing with two lottery picks, seniors, and 1000 point career players around him.
