TOM CREAN FIRED

Yep.  Also big on saying this or that coach should be fired because their team lost a game ignoring that the reasons people want Crean fired go beyond that.

There's a thread started by him with a list of coaches that should be fired because their team has losses, a list that includes Izzo.  Nevermind that Izzo makes tourney runs about as often as Crean makes a decision that makes no sense or stupid substitution.

One of our posters actually made a comment on that thread on the second page about Maryland beating us despite losing 4 starters, and starting three freshmen. Someone responded about Maryland having two seniors so we never really had a chance.... it was good for a laugh

Kent Sterling made the claim that both Indiana and Maryland were very young after that game. We don't start a freshman (JBj, RoJo, Josh, TB and OG/JM). We have three veteran guards with three years experience. Two of those were 4 and a 5 star which means they came in with a lot of experience and have played a lot over those three years

Then of our top 7 we mix 3 Sophs and 3 freshman. So we might barely be youngish but not very young. Am I crazy and missing things?

I really hate that I'm at the point where I hear talk about whether games are turning points for us and I hope that they aren't. Hoping the team I love doesn't turn things around because I'm ready to finally get off the Crean roller coaster sucks.

Yeah I don't agree with the argument that "real fans never root against their teams." It sucks but sometimes you have to look at what's best for the long term. A bad season that gets Crean outta Bloomington is a necessary evil if we want to get back to elite.

Trust me, you do not want that.

We're not very good now, but we can't become a laughingstock and lose at home to Penn State, Rutgers, Northwestern, and then get smoked on the road by whoever we play.  That would immensely damage the perception of the program, the future of the team (Davis, Green, Jones) would question why they're even here causing some to strongly consider transferring somewhere else, and 2017 commits and recruits and probably 2018 recruits would completely tune us out as an option due to us being not only irrelevant on the national stage, but a laughingstock of a once-proud program.

Just let it play out.  I firmly believe the most realistic outcome at this point is a 17-14 regular season record and out in the first round of the BTT.

No way we don't make a change if the above plays out.  But to root for a 12-19 overall record would set us back at least another 2 years.

You better hope for 7-11 than because with 9-9 coach stays.

It would not set the program back two years. With a big time hire peoole would forget aboyt 12-19 in about 10 seconds.

Exactly. Although, even if we lost every game the rest of the season. I'd imagine we're still a year or two away from Crean getting Crean'd

By Spring 2019, we should know what's going to happen.

I sure hope we don't have to wait that long, I can't take another couple years of this.

My ideal scenario is a few weeks of embarrassing performances that get Crean fired mid-season, and then an interim coach who comes in and takes us to the tournament. A guy can dream lol.

Ive said all along he is not getting fired this year no matter what. If he has a good year next season it then buys him at least two more years. We need to accept this.

Can I root for a natty and Crean to be replaced?

You know that wouldn't happen.  Crean was given an absurd buyout before doing anything, if he somehow had players that could carry him to a national title he'd probably get a 20 year contract with a 50 mil buyout.  I do well enough to watch Tom Crean's "offense" for one game (sometimes can't even watch a full game), it'd be pure hell knowing we'd be stuck with this crap for another 20 years.

Exactly!! I have my problems with Crean just as much as I would if we had someone else as a coach. I am not saying they would be as bad, but there are things Crean does better than other coaches and vise versa. I want him gone for the simple fact our program seems to be running in place. We are a tourney program with no shot at a title and a B1G title every few years. That is good for most places, but not here. If Crean was a lot of other places he would be looked at very highly, so I can't act like he is a horrible coach regardless of how bad things get. I don't think we can get the guy that takes us to the next level after this year, so I am rooting like crazy this team can pull it together. To hope a bunch of teenagers fail miserable is a horrible excuse for a true fan. If you cared about this program you would want the best for the players regardless of who was coaching. I think we need a new coach, but I will never wish our kids to have to suffer loss after loss.

Like I said about a month ago I think his seat will start getting a little warm if we miss the tournament, that is looking quite likely at this point. If we win only say 5 conference games I think he'll start getting a little toasty. This team is pretty talented yet they are just so awful to watch, they makes the same mistakes over and over again, thats on the coach to correct. I don't wan't him fired this year but if this continues next year too my mind might be changed. The media is starting to pick up on the deficiencies us fans have been talking about for a while, thats usually how it all starts.

He is always going to win just enough games not to get fired. I could see him still as the iu coach six years from now.

I'd be on board with this.   Today, Butler was down 16 at the half and came back for a win.  Butler second half:  0 turnovers, 20-of-27 FG, 4-of-5 3s, 21-of-26 FTs.  Holtman must have made just a couple of halftime adjustments don't you think?

Only took 5 3s in the second half?  That's...legal?

We usually take that many stupid 3s per half.

EDIT:  He wouldn't be my first choice, but I wouldn't complain.
