My money is on the Gator or Music City. Selfishly, Pinstripe Bowl due to my proximity of NYC. That's a loooooong shot considering we were just there a few years back. PS...the FG was good.

  4. You think this is the only "easy" schedule IU has had in the last 26 years? Somehow Allen was the only one to actually go and win eight games in all that time, and we didn't have to play Ohio State, Michigan, AND Penn State every year for most of that stretch. The people complaining about who we beat have totally lost the plot. No one ever brings up who we beat when we last won 8 games in 1993. They're not going to talk about it with this team either. Indiana has won 9 games only twice. Ever. Against all sorts of schedules. And people are spitting in the face of 8 wins? Get some perspective, please!

  5. This weekend will be a big one for top targets. IU has some top guys in town and I could see maybe 1-2verbals. 1 verbal could come from Barner who is not listed for an official this weekend. I will list those who have not given A verbal. 8 guys have given a verbal to IU will be on campus to help recruit more to this family. Jason Harris DE (I’d say it’s down to us and Colorado, AZ seems to be out of the mix) Jaiden Francois Safety Jontavis Robertson WR/slot guy/return guy (recent verbal lewis is friends with Robertson, very close bond) Bryson Bonds Safety Leif Magnuson OT/OG/C new name Tim Baldwin RB From Virginia

It’s like moving the goalposts every time this team hits a goal and telling them nah sorry you have to beat teams with amazing records or winning records to get respect from IU fans. It’s a joke. It was just win winnable games and be decent and get to a bowl. Everyone was whining for the past two seasons....Tom has missed the bowl. He needs to get to a bowl. Well he’s made a bowl and he’s 8-4. Eight......and Four. Stop moving the goalposts and looking for ways to discredit this team. This staff and HC did what many felt like they wouldn’t do....this team won multiple big ten games.

  11. I had a nice conversation with a guy at church today (he knows I'm a huge IU fan). He said- "Sure is great about the football team. Proud of those boys. Good to see our Hoosiers doing well". I thought about this today- this mass majority of fans don't care about efficiency, who is quarterbacking, lack of discipline, etc. Other than this microcosm of fans that dissect every single part of the game, most only care about the outcome. Not saying that it's wrong to want to clean it up, but to act like the world is ending because of it is just silly. The best part of what he said? "Our Hoosiers", not Penix's Hoosiers, not Ramsey's Hoosiers, not Allen's Hoosiers, but Our Hoosiers.

  13. This team went 3-2 on the road and 5-4 in conference. When was the last time we had winning records on the road and in conference? Tom Allen exceeded expectations this year, plain and simple. Expectations shifted throughout the season as we realized we had a better team than we expected. It sucks knowing we were really only a few plays away from being 10-2 with wins at MSU and at PSU.

    Food For Thought

Crazy numbers: After 7 games this year we are 7-0 but, of course, we haven't played any one. We are averaging 86.4 points/game and we are giving up 63.6/game. Last year at this time we were 5-2. the two losses were to Arkansas by 1 on the road and by 21 to Duke on the road. We had a good 23 point win over Marquette and 4 wins over cupcakes Chicago St, Montana St, Texas Arlington and UC-Davis. At that point we were averaging 82.1 points/game and giving up 64.6. Are the numbers really any better than last year, considering the competition? In a roller-coaster year we followed the Duke loss by winning 7 in a row to bring us to 12-2 and a #21 ranking in the AP poll. That was followed by a loss in 12 of the next 13 games before we righted ourselves and ended the regular season with 4 straight wins. By the end of the year we had a scoring average of 71.5 and a defensive average of 67.8 Really hope for a win on Tuesday but folks the jury is still out.

  16. It’s not about the decisions, it’s about rust and health. When you haven’t practiced in a month, missed the scrimmage, missed both exhibitions, and the first game or two you’re going to be really rusty. That rust is going to impact things such as timing, speed of the game, etc. Passes you think should be there, you might have the timing off on. This happens all of the time when people miss considerable time. What seems more likely? Phinisee was rusty from missing a month+, or Phinisee randomly, despite working hard all summer, just out of the blue got worse?

The optics are important. Selling an 8 - 4 season on the recruiting trail is much better than what we had in the past. Showing progress, no matter how we got there, is important in the bigger picture. We can't get better until we recruit better and we can't recruit better until we show that we are getting better. It's a viscous circle and we've been trapped in it forever. This season gives us a chance to ask better kids to give Indiana a second look. Will it pay dividends? I'm not smart enough to answer that. But I know what the past has been and that definitely didn't work. I say give Allen the benefit of the doubt and invest in him and his staff. What do we really have to lose at this point.

You should never be sorry about your passion man. I love your intel in recruiting and some of the behind the scenes stuff. We need more passionate fans like you! It’s just weird, not only this topic but a few others, that seem to come out of nowhere from another site. The “fans” are like that with much more than IU football. That’s not even what I’m saying. The fans voiced that they wanted us to win the winnable games and hopefully get a huge upset. I didn’t take any personal shots....but since I’m childish.....And have childish takes....up yours buddy ol pal. Childish rant because I actually listed things that were asked of this team and once they did it....nobody gave them credit for winning and bashed them and their record....so if that’s childish okay you win big boy. Your twitter fingers have a lot of threats and down talking.....sorry my childish rant hurt you....do you need me to lay out what I’m saying.....take personal shots when you have no counter points to what I’m actually saying. here you go...it’s laid out for you and as MD said it’s based off of past items....it’s based off the past that coaches have historically choked and gone 4-8,3-9,5-7 with this seasons schedule. Once we hit bowl bound and then once again when this team hit wins 7 and 8 this team was shat on by their own fans and crowd. So if it’s childish for me to back the team....darn. goalposts 1. This season win the winnable games that you should. Don’t choke like the past 50 years. 2. then goalposts were moved by fans and discrediting the team saying they haven’t done anything. We won’t show up til they beat a ranked team..... 3. Beat a ranked team then we are for real....newsflash....we have beaten ranked teams what 3 times in the past 7 years. 4. I’ll expect number 3 once we win winnable games....but I guess we want a big top 5 win and a huge raise....then go 4-8 and we will be happy..... 5. Next season should be let’s beat some ranked teams or historically better teams. but hey I’m a child what do I know. Mr. Alford is the almighty on this board throwing personal insults when i said nothing....let the record show.

  25. Full disclosure, I got those numbers from someone on Twitter last night and I haven't taken any time at all to verify. It seems about right though. That said, I think you're just completely underselling it and missing a large part of the point here. Regardless of how bad the team were that we beat, we still would have lost to several of them in years past and ended up with a losing record, or maybe eked out a 6-6 record. We took a huge step forward as a program this year with on field results. We went from laughing stock bottom feeders who consistently blew some games we shouldn't have, to a team that finally beat the teams we should beat. Recruiting has improved, player development has improved, and finally, results have improved. Does that mean we'll win 8 games every season? No of course not. But don't undersell this as a huge step forward that no other coach in recent history has been able to achieve.

I think everyone gets that end of it but they also realize we have had this type of schedule over the years and still did not get to 8-4. It’s IU football. We have never beat who we should. I think the thing Lucel is saying is do you remember who all we beat in 93 without looking it up? We beat one ranked team that year and they ended up 6-6. No team we beat that year had a winning record either. We mainly beat up on very bad teams that year too. Our teams we beat that year had a collective 33 wins. 27. I can't believe how many people are questioning our record in any way. Yes it is what it is. We are 8-4 and our 8 wins came against teams that have a combined record of 25-71. We didn't beat a single team that was any good at all. But WHO CARES?!?! We should not apologize in the slightest bit for that. B/c in the past, the fact of the matter is we would have still LOST to several of those not very good teams. In seasons past there is no way we close the game out against Nebraska on the road, Maryland on the road, or Purdue on the road. No way. we blow those games and end up 5-7. This was HUGE step forward for the program. We aren't Iowa, we aren't Wisconsin, we aren't (fill in the blank). If Iowa or Wisconsin went 8-4 against our same schedule, they'd probably be a bit disappointed. But have some perspective!! And another point about our schedule, just look back the past several years. Not only do we play OSU, Mich, PSU, and MSU every year, our cross over games with the West has included either Iowa, Wisconsin, or a ranked Nebraska. We've paid our dues with the schedule. It was about time we got a break and we took advantage of it! Celebrate it! Gloat about it! Don't apologize to a single person for it! We won 8 games against a bunch of terrible teams and I loved every damn minute of it! Now if we somehow land in the Music City Bowl I'll know this is all actually just a dream and it didn't really happen.

  29. A few thoughts here... Remember that Fred Glass mentioned before the season started that he had some money held back in anticipation of a Tom Allen raise (don't have the link, I think it was an Osterman article). This was before our best season in 26 years. I would say a raise for him is a near certainty. As in like 99.9% certainty How much should/will he get? Not sure, but I'd be surprised if his salary wasn't doubled. He's proved he can compete in the Big Ten and deserves a competitive Big Ten salary. That's fair. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see him around 4 million a year. And that still only puts him in the middle of the Big Ten. Does he deserve that pay? Well, we've gone 8-4 this year. Can we honestly expect much better? Of course we'll keep pushing but IU football has had a ceiling for a long time. We darn near reached it this year. Historically speaking this was easily one of the ten best seasons in IU history. He's 18-19 at IU. Historically speaking that's pretty good for us. Allen has done something here few coaches have ever done. I think IU is fortunate that Allen seems like he wants to be here because IU doesn't have much football leverage. We have very little draw. We are not going to attract great coaches. If we ever found a GREAT coach, we'd have him a year before leaving to a bigger school. We're not the type of program that can switch coaches and have immediate success. My opinion? We should be appreciative of what we have. Allen isn't a GREAT coach. But he's pretty solid. We've got momentum with him. If you're wanting back to back 8-4 seasons at IU before giving him a raise, I'm afraid we'll lose him because another school will take him from us. Is it a risk that we could slide back to 5-7? You bet. But again, what leverage does IU football have? Considering the market, it's a risk worth taking.

  31. Recap- short and sweet offense- had moments, had what in the world moments....especially the line....during those 3 series where they forgot how to block. Sampson James just needed to get in a groove it looks like. Westbrook came up big, hendershot will play on Sunday’s with his blocking and receiving. defense- still unsure about Womack. He’s shown to be a great second half adjuster. This game it was a great first half followed by a bad second half. Special teams all in all were great....coverage....punting...Justus just had a bad day mentally and I’m sure the field wasn’t that great....but in warm ups he couldn’t miss....so not sure about that. I think inge has done well compared to last year. on another note.....uh aiden O’Connell....talk about under the radar. Kid should use his last few games to get starting job permanently....if brohm still gives Plummer a chance I would test the market. Kid can play. Very calm in the pocket. Outstanding reads. Bravo to him....I know I shouldn’t be pumping the boilers....but that kid showed he deserves to be named the starter....not sure how sindelar won out.

    Bowl Projection

Vols vs IU would be fun for many reasons....their offense isn’t that prolific and their defense has been great lately. They sure have turned around a scary beginning. UK just has Lynn Bowden on offense and their defense can be super stout at times. But Lynn Bowden is an amazing athlete. Also for Vols matchup....we recruited a ton of kids that have gone there and have been on some in this class...now this game will come after signing part 1, but still would be fun to beat them.

  33. I think everyone agrees Allen deserves extension/raise. Will only help with recruiting, which is key to continuing to build on the success. We have gotten some good athletes but still need to raise it a level and work on adding to our depth. I am skeptical about the defensive coordinator. Really wish we had put similar money into that position as the offensive coordinator. Just look at what Deboer has been able to do. You get what you $$$ pay.

  43. Agree. Carton didn’t vibe with our players for whatever reason. (Or vibed with OSU players better). Brooks made a bad decision imo although he, Smith, and Hunter all play the same position. Plus, I’m not sure the expectations of his family fit what’s best for IUBB. He’s not getting that at UK either. Oscar Tscheibwe is a man child. It was never going to be but he would have been a nice addition. Any other important “misses” to reminisce about? Short shorts Quinones. Eh, he’s ok. Probably will be good down the line. 45. Probably not. More development side of things. Leif can be a stud once he adds weight. Can’t teach length and athleticism Like that for a big guy....he could play anywhere on the line especially if the coaches think he’s long enough for tackle. Sciury is an early enrollee. He’s got size, but does he have strength. He’s been compared to Wes Martin. I also like the kid out of Missouri. However our starting line could look amazing if it looks like this and turns into quite possibly one of our stronger units. possible starting line given this is how it plays out LT- Bedford LG- Powell (transfer from Stanford) or crider C- Crider Or Powell RG- Coy cronk (comes back and plays interior given that’s where nfl will play him if he gets to the league) RT- Caleb Jones
