  1. Ik I’m late to the party, Had to calm down before I posted but here we go Game thoughts. pre game I told myself and buddies that if we could go up 10-14 early it would be over. NW Defense can only hold on and make plays for so long, their offense is one of the worst I’ve seen in awhile. We dominated. First half defense still needs to come out sharper, but man have to give credit to Womack and Co for their second half adjustments the last 3 games. offense- Penix looked hot, then looked off, then looked hot. You can tell why he was named starter especially on the first pass to whop...from what I could tell whop was his last read, and he looked like he was gonna check it down to walker out of backfield, he then saw whop hit the hole in the zone and quickly whipped it to the right side of the field. Injury report will be interesting, I’m starting to ask myself is this is mental thing that he will need to learn to overcome? Line did some good things. Bedford was anxious under the lights, he will have to not make mistakes like that in big time games. Stevie is doing the little things and he’s growing as a player and becoming a well rounded back before our eyes. The WRs when they are on....can compete and dominate anyone. Defense- Demarcus Elliott is a man child. He disrupts all the time. Athletic young players from the Dline-secondary.....future is bright on defense all around. I would like to see more fire from the start. Overall happy game overall, what I expected if we could get up early on them. Proud of this team and staff. off field items- mainly what I’ve seen on Twitter (not a great place to get info as trolls are out there), but I cannot understand the ever changing goals for the football team....the start of the season it was... just win, no matter if it was ugly win.....then it became beat Rutgers and Maryland..Nebraska.....and maybe crossovers here and there....they’ve done that....and they are 7-2 and you still have a crowd saying nah this team sucks, they aren’t good and blah blah blah.... this team has done what was asked of them and you still boo boo and have the poo pooers out there..... Yeah I’m an emotional IU football supporter, I admit that....but sheesh this team has done basically what it was asked to do yeah it choked at MSU....but many still had them losing to them in pre season predictions....OSU well I thought Justin fields might have some hiccups and cause their offense to sputter here and there....hand up lol I was wrong and he’s legit. My rant is over! This football team is fun, fast, passionate..... oh and Tiawan grabbing coach Allen on the field and telling him “I told you this is why’d I’d come here and help do” just speaks to what he and the younger kids think about IU. They love it. They love the football team and they love the coach. Crazy what a hs coach is starting to do in his third year. go Hoosiers, rest, refocus and get ready for happy valley. Win or lose I’ll be there for the Michigan game.

  2. For a high school coach? That is absurd don’t you agree? I mean as soon as two weeks ago hiring a high school coach was enough for you to fire Glass. Now you want him to pay the man? I am shocked. What could have changed so quickly? Seems kind of knee jerk don’t you think? You have been very clear we need to blow up all money making teams and our athletic office. Remember! Glass isn’t capable of doing anything good. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

  4. TJD is going to be a far, far better defender and teammate than Vonleh. But, if his offensive production is anywhere near Vonleh's I'd be shocked. I kinda think this is going to be the best defensive team we've seen at IU in a long time. My #1 "can't wait to see it" player is ... Justin Smith. Athletic players sometimes take a while to develop, and he looked significantly advanced in the exhibition. One bad game won't sour me; but really hoping to see a stretch of mostly good stuff from him. The other player that I truly think (I can't believe I'm even saying this) this board is now sleeping on is Jerome Hunter. Missed shots during that exhibition? Oh well; it happens. The way he asserted himself in the second half of the exhibition was completely intriguing to me and I'm pretty sure he can shoot.

  9. Here is the difference that was shown to me in practice. Pass play from the hash marks to the far sideline. Ramsey made the pass 3 times, once was an INT, the other two were incomplete. Penix on the first throw with a flick of the wrist has the ball there for the receiver to catch and get a foot down before going out of bounds. Its throws like this thas Penix can make that Peyton just can't. If Penix is out for the rest of the season, we will have a good gameplan with Ramsey and still put up plenty of points.

  13. Personally, I'm very excited to see how this team carries the momentum from the back half of last season into this one. Last year, I believe we saw Archie and Co. start to find their identity and start to really work within Archie's system. Top things I'm looking for: - Are Al and Armaan legitimate backup PG options to Phinisee? This will be one of the most critical factors for success this year, in my opinion. - Is Devonte going to be a star and the catalyst for this team's success? Every good tournament team needs the guy who's going to get the bucket no matter what in crunch time. - How good is TJD going to perform in the B1G as a freshman? I think he's going to surprise some people, but it's overly optimistic to expect Noah Vonleh level production. - I want to see that lockdown defense of Archie's past teams. We have the right personnel with some time in the system. Need to see some significant results.

  14. Literally no one is hating on Ramsey, you’re just the only one unable to admit that Penix is better despite proving himself time and time again. You say moving goalposts? Before the season when I told you Penix was better, you said let’s see him play. He did great. Then you said, let’s see him against real competition. He did great against MSU and the rest of the B1G teams he’s faced. Now, you’re inventing some narrative that everyone is disrespecting Ramsey. They aren’t. You are hating on Penix. He “borrows” the starting gig as you say? No, he beat out the incumbent starter because, if he stays healthy, he is the QB that can take IUFB to the next level. You are literally one of the last people in Hoosier fandom who cannot or will not admit the truth and see what is so evident to everyone. Again, no one is hating on Ramsey. We absolutely love Ramsey, especially when he’s able to be the QB2 and we aren’t hoping he can carry us against OSU, PSU, and UM. We all just recognize our chances of beating the big three are better with a healthy Penix. Done. That’s it. You refuse to understand this very tame and fair fact of IUFB for some wild and unknown reason that has made you the sole flag bearer of the “Give Me Ramsey or Give Me Death” movement. 17. Three straight will give many reason to get the pitchforks back out, but I don’t think there is any take away from the season other than positives. A coach who is growing into the role, a much improved offense and defense, two excellent QBs, a stud RB, and a core of freshman and sophomores who are bought in and rewarded with a bowl. 18. Prior to the Rutgers game I said that 4 game stretch would be huge in my opinion of Tom Allen. I have always been a supporter of him, but I saw that stretch as an opportunity for this program to go one way or the other as every single game was winnable. I said anything less than 2-3 wins and I would be really disappointed and have some doubts. Well i never expected this team to win all 4. But they did. So yes, WAY TO GO TOM ALLEN. GO HOOSIERS.

  22. Pretty sure there is some kind of relationship outside of fandom. The guy gets triggered whenever people even hint that Penix is better than Ramsey.
    3 points
  23. Quicker release, generally quicker downfield decisions (or an ability to make those throws when Ramsey second guesses his ability to do so), bigger, stronger, faster. That's why Penix is a better player, and none of that shows up on any stat sheet. Ramsey is fine. Penix is better. The eyeball test DOES actually work; as was mentioned above.
    3 points
  24. I like both players, and I know their stats are almost identical, but the one thing that stands out to me is the sacks differential. Penix has been sacked once, compared to Ramsey being sacked 11 times

  26. I should clarify it was made more to demonstrate the high bar of a freshman coming in and being B1G basketball ready. Vonleh didn’t miss a beat. Zeller came in ready. 28. I'm the last guy to be holding up an argument for "the eye test", but this is just simple fact. There are passes that Penix can make and Ramsey cannot. There really isn't anything (besides staying healthy at this point) Ramsey can do that Penix cannot do (and in many cases do better).

  29. How many times do I have to articulate that MSU’s defense isn’t the same as OSU, rather it’s just the second best we’ve seen all season and the only comparable we have? Because I’ve literally made that caveat three times now. But continue with your asinine theory that because IU’s defensive stats per game are currently in line with MSUs then come see me in December after their stretch against the conferences worst teams plus arch rival Michigan. Never mind the talent disparity in pre the conference scheduling. Back to Penix the only point I was making is that he can make the sideline and downfield throws against athletic defenses that Ramsey can’t due to arm strength. So while there are teams Ramsey can beat there are others he cannot. Penix doesn’t put our team in that position. End of point.

  34. IU has the #1 pass offense in the conference. Penix and Ramsey's stats are almost identical. Good news is we have both these guys back next year. Both will improve and a senior Ramsey can fill in for all the games Penix sits out with injury and we wont miss a beat. Good times!

  35. 20/29 with 282 yards and 3 TD's on a day his team ran for > 260 yards, too. Yeah....what a struggle. He sucks. It's laughable how incredibly biased and non objective you are about Ramsey. Is that a man crush or ignorance?

  41. 7-2 *******!!!! Guaranteed winning season. Glad we didn’t fire CTA over the summer. I’d like to see Penix be able to stay healthy but it’s awesome having Ramsey as THE backup. Defense came up huge with takeaways. They’ve been solid in the second half of games but they kept a bad offense down yesterday. Let’s get healthy and give PSU a hell of a game. They’ll be coming off a game at an undefeated Minnesota team and before going to an undefeated O$U. Trap game!! Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

  42. Agreed. The zip on Penix’s throw makes the defense have to play that much quicker and allows the receivers to catch the ball in stride and make get more YAC. It also stretches the field more for our running game and underneath routes. His grasp on the offense is very promising for a RS Freshman.

  44. I'll yin to your yang a little. In a prior thread, most people who replied agreed that a better strategy at Indiana was "get old and stay old." The talent differential of a 4* kid who is a senior in college vs. a 5* kid who's a freshman in college is negligible at worst, and favors the older, more experienced player at best. I have no interest and I don't think Archie has an interest in recruiting kids who are NBA bound before they ever hit college campuses. The pressure of that - a need to be successful with multiple top kids every year - is not bearable for any coach nor program who's not doing that successfully already. Recruiting those players wouldn't be successful at Eastern Wyoming any more than it would be at Indiana. My bigger point is this. Archie Miller has landed 2 consecutive Indiana Mr. Basketball winners (Langford and Jackson-Davis), and has likely landed a 3rd as I think Leal is the one to beat this season if not Galloway). He landed Ohio's Mr. Basketball a year ago. His list of recruits is full of 4* players...all of whom look to be at least contenders at Indiana - meaning we might land them. Indiana plays in a different world than Duke. Than Kentucky. I'm not sure I agree with North Carolina because they tend to have more experienced players; and I think Indiana will soon be on that level. I don't think Archie wants to go down a path of having to land several top-tier recruits year in and year out. That's one formula, but I don't think that's Indiana's formula. Virginia, Michigan State, Michigan, Wisconsin, and others have shown the OTHER formula - recruit good players who stay, get old and stay old - works just as well if not better in some cases. Texas Tech had a shot last season and they didn't have a single top 100 recruit. What they DID have? Really smart basketball players; experience; length; depth; shooters; and good defenders. 31-7. But...statistically? They were very average. They weren't the best at anything except shooting % on both sides of the ball, which is a big one I realize. They didn't dominate anything in their own conference, let alone nationally. But....they were an absolute b!tch to play against because the pieces fit and they were able to play within Chris Beard's system and thrive in it. I think Indiana is building something similar, and I think there's a reason many "top names" don't include Indiana on their list. I'm not sure I really care very much. My point in that is building a program around older players makes the pieces fit on a more regular basis than trying to find immediate contributors year in and year out. It took Archie maybe an extra year to get this right; and I think early on he was trying to recruit a different way than he is now. I suspect you will all be very happy with Indiana's program if you'll just let it play out. And thank me later. =) So.....I guess I think it doesn't matter how some top tier recruits view Indiana. 5 years ago, Indiana sent 2 of the top 4 picks to the NBA draft. Victor Oladipo by himself has made Indiana University cool again in the eyes of local college recruits, and I know that because I hear it relatively often. IU is on their radar; and Archie is landing those players. He is also having relative success outside the state, and is obviously attractive to very good players.

I get simple debate but even then at some point it has to come to an "agree to disagree". Why should the same argument, not debate, go on for days or even weeks? At some point you have to accept that no stance is changing and find the next healthy topic to debate. People getting personal and shitty with one another isn't necessary. Also constantly pointing out that someone is always negative/positive is about as exhausting as the negativity/positivity itself. Sent from my Pixel 3a XL using Tapatalk

  47. Back when I was in school -- 1987 -- Dave Kramme started twice because the starter (Dave Schnell) had an appendectomy. That was the only time we beat Michigan and OSU in the same season (Schnell started both those games, though). Unfortunately, one of those games in which Schnell was out, we could've won the Big Ten title. But we got poleaxed at Michigan State. It's doubtful Schnell would've made a difference in the outcome -- a 27-3 loss -- but I think it would've been more competitive. I know that's not the same, but we did win eight games that year -- and had to play a couple with our QB2.
