Jerome, TJD, and Damezi walked past our tailgate this past weekend...I’m no doctor but based on my analysis of Jerome walking, he seemed to be taking steps of somebody who has been cleared for full contact! 10. Team is off to a great start. Let's hope the wheels don't fall off. IU received 13 votes in the latest AVCA Coaches poll. Indiana hasn’t been ranked since 2010. In two weekends when Big Ten play starts, Hoosiers will play two (No. 7 Minnesota, No. 9 Wisconsin) top 10 teams to open conference play.

  15. Our conference doesn't help but I don't buy that it's a bigger hindrance than some are making it out to be. Last season we were 0-3 against the Big Ten West, prior season we were 1-2, even in the 6 win bowl season prior we were 1-2. Big Ten East alignment doesn't help at all, but we don't beat the Big Ten West either. EDIT: Edited to make our records correct, 1-2 not 1-3. Point stands, over last 9 BT West games we're 2-7.

  18. Actually, it's a very apt comparison. Allen did absolutely nothing to be given the keys to a B1G program. Nothing. He'd been at IU for all of one season ... Likewise, Buckley wouldn't have done anything to deserve the gig.

  25. Lander may or may not end up in Bloomington. But your analysis strikes me as off. Phinisee and Lander would have exactly zero problem playing together defensively, unless you think that Lander is just going to be a disinterested defender. But he’s already a long 6’3”, and apparently still growing, with flat out elite movement skills. Neither he nor Phinisee is defensively system limited in any way. I would foresee a Sr Phinisee/Fr Lander backcourt providing exceptional ball pressure and being highly disruptive creating turnovers and pushing pace. And any moron could scheme them offensively. If he ends up elsewhere, he ends up elsewhere. But system and personnel fit don’t strike me as the slightest issues.

From hereon forward, the lowest 2 scores will be taken off your total which makes for a strange looking overall leaderboard this week. Basically, its your single best score in the 1st 3 games. 30. College football isn't most businesses. If a coach uses IU as a spring board, who cares. That would mean the football program has been having success. If you limit your search to guys who would want to stay at IU then you're eliminating about every hot rising star in the business from the jump. That's how you end up with Tom Allen. I'd much rather have a coach everyone wants than a coach who no one wants. Right now we have the latter. The way Coach Allen conducts himself is embarrassing. All teams recruiting against us will have to do is show them that pregame video from last Saturday and ask "do you really want to go play for that doofus?"
    1 point
  31. In the end, yes. He hired the easy coach. But others were indeed contacted. Allen at that time had a resume that (at Indiana) was worthy of s look. And he's won 5 games in consecutive seasons.....something not often accomplished in program history. His IU resume is not yet complete, and his team is sitting at 2-1. If you were being objective over the summer and someone asked you where you thought they'd be right now, what would you have said? Guarantee you'd have said 2-1. So.....all of you are b*tching to b*tch right now. Like I said .. he has the rest of this season to prove it or not. But.....I still say the schedule and divisional alignment of the Big Ten is a far bigger hurdle than any of you are crediting. Not many coaches will come to Indiana because there's nothing to be gained. I hate reality sometimes, but you can't deny it.

  32. I just want the kid to play. He looked like an aggressive offensive player at Hoosier Hysteria last year which was a good sign. But after being out a year and maybe longer from legitimate gameplay, I won’t put large expectations on his return outside of a few points per game until he gets his feet wet. It may not be until his second season playing that he finally flourishes.

  36. I'm not abdicating one way or the other, but it almost feels like he's taking a basketball approach to football. One of the reasons we have Tom Allen is because he's a Indiana/local guy. No direct ties to the university (perhaps I'm wrong?) but is local. He has ties to area high school coaches due to his past. Then Glass removes names from jerseys. Great in basketball. Not so much in football. It feels like he's painting with too broad of a brush. The programs are different. Don't treat them like they are the same. Perhaps the correlation is weak. Just something I noticed is all.

  38. We will go through a ton of up and down gyrations all season (we were close, we looked pretty good, too bad so and so is hurt, we are young, one more play, that was a good win, can’t believe we lost to them, etc etc) but at the end of the year it will result in 5-7 yet again.

  39. Great way to end non-conference play and get ready for our B1G opener next week with a 1-0 road win over Kentucky. Ladies make their first half goal stand up and hand Kentucky its first loss. For the game, IU with 8 shots; 1 on goal and 4 corners. Kentucky with 5, 1 & 4. B1G play opens next Friday afternoon in Bloomington against Iowa and then a Sunday afternoon home game against Nebraska.

  40. Fair enough. 2 very terse questions followed by IMO a defensive (can't think of a better word) response to my post that was totally made in jest. I'm not a debater on btb but consider myself a provider of info for everyone else with an occasional (albeit weak) attempt at a little humor. I probably read 99% of what is posted on btb and follow the debaters and their differing points of view and will readily 'Like' the opinions that I agree with. Oftentimes I am in agreement with the message in your posts but man, sometimes your delivery could use a little work. I guess it's the fundamental problem of trying to decipher intent and meaning of written communication vs. face-to-face communication.

  42. Look, it sounds good for IU to say that they care about all the sports programs, but we both know that basketball and football are the ones that really matter. Sure, Glass's job is to oversee all the programs, but in reality those two are the ones that matter. You seem to acknowledge that when you say that this will all be forgotten when IU is good at basketball again. How can you say 7-5 and consistent bowling is possible without spending money when we've almost never done it? I'm 25 years old. IU has won 7 games one time during my lifetime and gone to 3 bowl games. What we've been doing hasn't worked.

While umpires make errors, I hate the idea of an automated strike zone. As a coach of the game players are becoming self-entitled babies with the strike zone. How many good strikes do players watch, and then argue at a borderline pitch that can go either way. Sorry, no sympathy here. Baseball has too many changes that people want to make. Some are great, but making everything automated will take so much away from this game imo. I will still watch baseball if it happens, but I love the umpires making the calls! There needs to be a wider strike zone anyway. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

  46. I was a little later than you, but it was the same in my day. ... My freshman year was 1986-87 (a pretty phenomenal year) and a few days before school started, a buddy and I were walking around campus. We happened upon the HPER building and noticed a crowd. Turns out, Alford, Eyl & some of the gang were playing pick-up ball. While watching, I took notice of a black fella that I didn't recognize. I wasn't sure if he was on the team or not, but he could easily outrun and outjump everybody there -- a phenomenal athlete who could flat-out ball. I sorta figured he wasn't one of the crowd -- he was just way too good. ... Turns out it was Keith Smart!
