IUrocker Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 Hard to say the future looks gloomy when Archie doesn’t even have a full roster of players who he actually handpicked himself to come play for him and fit his system. A few years from now we won’t have any players on the sidelines with Diet Coke stains on their jerseys, and if at that point we look like we do now then it’d be safe to say it’s on Archie. Right now he’s playing the hand he was dealt and doing what he can. I don’t care how good a coach his, if you have players on the team who are soft and don’t give a crap about showing any type of pitbull fierceness and grit, that’s just who they are and they’re gonna be that way. Archie wouldn’t have recruited the players Crean got on this team. We need shooters, we need players who have attitude, heart, passion, grit, fight, you name it...Archie is trying to get it out of them and they just are acting like they don’t want to have to do it. It isnt that difficult to figure out. 2 players are great finishers around the rim but pretty much the entire team has glaring deficiencies shooting the ball....that is the IU season in a nutshell, in my opinion. colonel06 Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 I desperately hope so. Last season we were deep in tunnel, and two short months ago we thought we could see the light. Now it's dark again and many of us don't know what to think or believe. But how, just how, can we get this low and be so gd embarrassing at basketball?Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Iugradman 1 Quote

HoosierAloha Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 The program has so many problems I don't even know where to start. This season specifically though is very strange to me. We started out well with several wins against some pretty good teams. Now we've lost 7 straight. We aren't a terrible team talent wise. It makes me wonder if something happened behind the scenes or if there are locker room problems. You can see the season in each game. We started out well against Maryland, times got tough and we quit. We started out well against Rutgers, things got tough and we quit. We have ball players that quit when things don’t go well. Why? We’re young, we don’t have leaders, and our coaches don’t have the magical fix for it. (You can’t snap your fingers and give players skill and experience)Next season won’t be much better. I do think Phin and Durham will start rubbing off on players but there is too much sulking and not enough getting pissed. Morgan is a captain, Romeo is one of the better players, Smith is supposed to be that third wheel. What do they all have in common? They’re easy going dudes that just go with the flow. That’s not going to cut it. It won’t be until Phin and Al are upperclassmen that actually lead. Having more skilled players next season in Jackson-Davis and Brooks (if/when he commits) won’t be the magical band aid that fixes this boo boo. It’s a culture thing. It’ll change when the players step up and lead. Yes, call me a sunshine pumper and that I’m a blind follower but there are better days ahead. When the going gets tough the tough get going (and hopefully there are some that just go away).Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile app colonel06, thebigweave, Alford Bailey and 3 others 6 Quote

Sent from my SM-J700T using Tapatalk Fred does care and this has to be eating him alive. He has his faults but he is an IU guy, was around during the “good ol days” and I’d bet anything he thought he hit a home run by hiring arguably the hottest available young coach in the country (and making him the 10th highest paid coach ). He wants the team to win and has to know this will define his own legacy. Old Friend and thebigweave 2 Quote

EDIT: In fairness he did lose Johnson and Newkirk but you would think Rob and Romeo were pretty good substitutes. crayfish1967, ElectricBoogaloo and colonel06 3 Quote
Popular Post ray Posted January 31, 2019 Popular Post Posted January 31, 2019 I will say only a couple things. Fewer injuries may not have saved this season, but no one can argue that this team has had a limited number of bodies all season long in practice and in games. I can only hope the players that aren't able to practice are shooting 10,000 shots per day. Shooting is a major struggle for this team. Indiana basketball is the only sport team I watch religiously anymore, and it's hard seeing that team go on such extended scoring droughts to where they are constantly attempting to overcome substantial deficits. I am disgusted by the losing streak, but I'm hopeful a lot can still be learned and improved upon. I'm still a fan and will continue to watch the games, but for someone who tries to always be aware of the present moment and not look to much into the future or dwell too much on the past, it's hard watching the present day Hoosiers. I like Al Durham, and I'm glad to see him being aggressive. I like Rob Phinisee as well. They both (Rob especially) get caught under the basket hoping for calls more than I would like, but they need to continue to attack. They're both decent foul shooters and outside of Romeo and Juwan, they seem to be the only two capable of creating plays for themselves. Clifton Moore should get more minutes than Forrester and Fitzner. At this point, Fitzner should get mop up duty only. I guess the coaches are hoping he finds his confidence and starts knocking down threes again...but, how long do they wait for the resurrection of his shot? Too often I see him stand around when loose rebounds are up for grabs. It's frustrating. He seems as lost as Forrester, so give Forrester the minutes if Moore is seen as incapable. However, I see more from Moore than I do either of the other players. Juwan is a gifted scorer around the rim and his footwork and finish continues to impress me for someone as undersized for his position. Thank goodness he is because nothing comes easy for him and he has to fight for everything. With so little success from the perimeter, it's become even harder to feed Juwan in the post. I still think Green is the superior post feeder on this team. I see reasons for why some posters are glad he is out (none more so than his lack of willpower that led to his suspension), but Indiana already lacks healthy bodies. One less player on a limited roster only hurts, even if only for the sake of practice. Anderson makes me very nervous, but I liked the way he fought for loose balls tonight. Romeo had to shoot a lot to get his points tonight, but he has to keep shooting. I liked the starting lineup tonight. Unfortunately, there's not much scoring power on this team beyond those five. At the beginning of the season I had hopes for a lot of depth on this team, but with injuries and some of the off-season promise of the development of certain players not coming to fruition, there isn't. It is among the more shallow teams I can recall in Bloomington. Again, injuries are partly responsible for this lack of depth. And, yes, part of the blame can be passed on to a number of other factors as well...and, as with any forum, it has been and will continue to be. I'm sure they'll surprise us yet with some unexpected victories, but after each passing game the number of those unexpected victories becomes smaller from my outlook. It's turned into a tough season to watch, but still...go Hoosiers! HoosierTrav, ILHoosier, A.j. Nigh and 9 others 12 Quote

Green is who he has been too, but injured and suspended. Smith, I’ll keep that to myself. Durham has improved. Morgan is who he was last season but he’s a 4 playing out of position. Popular Post Ranger78 Posted January 31, 2019 Popular Post Posted January 31, 2019 It's not that bad. My view of bad might be different than others. I just had my 20th anniversary at my company and they asked me what I wanted. I wanted to take my kid who loves IU basketball to a game. We're going to IU vs Rutgers. Archie is building a system. I don't have the first clue if it's going to work. His model requires toughness and a team. He doesn't have that right now. He needs to build it with the younger players. I know this: it's not that bad. I love IU. I'm going to take my daughter to watch the game I love at my favorite place. It's not that bad.
