While I'm in favor of anti-Notre Dame trash talk, Glensek's take is just is not true; while Notre Dame Dame doesn't have any wins over top ten teams, they have won some "diffificult games."

  1. Beat 6-3 Boise State 28-7
  2. Beat #20 USC 34-24
  3. NC State doesn't suck, and they trounced them.

And their only losses are by one point to #3 Texas A&M and by three points to #18 Miami on the road. That's a strong-ish resume - they are currently #5 in FPI for whatever that's worth.

It's not an IU resume, but then again, Notre Dame is not given the CFP love that IU has been given.

There’s a 0.00% chance that IU would be ranked #10 in the CFP with Notre Dame’s resume. It’s ranked where it is for one reason and one reason only - its brand. ND is ranked 8 spots higher than the two loss team that beat it, and it’s also ranked above the one loss ACC that beat the team that beat ND. I generally think the ACC is a joke of a conference, but ND doesn’t play a murderers row of a schedule either.

Frankly I think ND should be required to join w conference to participate in the CFP. Every year it plays one or two good teams (who it usually loses to), them a bunch of mid, and gets to hang in the mix because of its brand. We get to hear about how “Notre Dame’s on an X game win streak, no one in the country is hotter!” but that’s not exactly hard when you have no tough games after September ends. Teams in conferences will have years where their schedules break their way, but ND gets that advantage every year given its ability to choose all its games. Join a conference or get out, imo.

Putting aside the actual quality of the teams this seems like a fairly interesting question. Through the tv screen the Kinnick atmosphere felt, I don’t know, weightier.

FWIW, someone I know who went to both IU games said Kinnick was louder.  He said only towards the end of the game did Autzen get close.

Both are very loud places at the end of the day, but I think Oregon’s better teams and a bit of self promotion elevates Autzen’s reputation.

Kinnick always feels like a really tough atmosphere, even when they’re not particularly good.

Exactly.  That's impressive to show up when things aren't great.

Kinnick probably gets overlooked because their stadium doesn't have the grand look of Death Valley, Neyland, PSU, OSU etc.  And their team is pretty boring.  But in reality it's probably as loud as any stadium in the country -- it's got those steep stands close to the sidelines and 70K fans that like to yell all game.

It will be interesting to see how Oregon does there.  UO's offense has been sputtering a bit and the weather is looking cold with maybe some rain/snow.

I'm thrilled we won there and that's behind us.

I've got Oregon/Iowa as an absolute rock fight. I'm not sure Oregon is ready for all that comes with that roadie. I'm really excited for that game. An Oregon win probably helps us more in all honesty with The Narrative forming around the Ducks, but I don't think either result hurts our resume either.

Yea.  I kinda want Oregon to win to bolster our case for "best win of the season," I really like that feather in our cap.  But it probably doesn't matter much either way and I'm not going to worry much about the outcome.

I’m not a fan of that list.  I’ve been to big games at some of those places and they’re way high — for instance Texas and UM aren’t very loud.

But, the debate on this topic will never be resolved.

Probably a decibel meter at one of the benches might be the most scientific way of resolving it.  "How loud is it on the field" might be the better term.

Yea.  If someone arranged an independent third party scientific test/study that would be quite interesting.

Pat Fitzgerald's PR team running a big campaign this week. Who takes the plunge? I think whoever does will be happy they did.

Had this same thought when Fitzgerald news crawled across ESPN.

If I'm Arkansas I definitely give him an interview even if it seems like a weird fit.

Some of the higher jobs probably all think they can do better, but a low to middling program in a power conference shouldn't think twice.

Michigan St when it opens seems like a good fit imo.
