MadAboutIndiana Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 I don't see this being the card to play for IU. Like Spike. But it's a risk Who knows who is out there for if not McSwain, though. Wish Bielfeldt had another year lol Quote
Uspshoosier Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 Heading to Purdue @evandaniels Michigan graduate transfer Spike Albrecht has committed to Purdue, he told Scout. Will be eligible immediately. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mamasa, IUsafety and ALASKA HOOSIER 3 Quote
Stuhoo Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 Great pickup for them from a team chemistry standpoint. He will also help on the court, though he doesn't address their primary deficiencies; athleticism and defensive presence. Still, for a team with a bunch of open schollys that very well could also be losing Swanigan, it's a very good addition. mamasa 1 Quote

716e11th Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 UM should've kept him if nothing else but to help get 2 wins (if they play Purdue twice) in head-to-head games. But also, bc Purdue desperately needs a pg, I bet he's worth 3-5 in-conference wins alone. Quote
HoosierAloha Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 Good to see him land back in Indiana. It will help pu a lot with chemistry, communication, and bodies to practice. Do they have the ability to go 5v5 with scholarship players yet? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners Bobman1 and IUsafety 2 Quote

Sure, he's a solid back-up PG (although maybe a starter for them) but not moving the needle that much, IMO. Plus PU (ESPECIALLY) without Swanigan looks very pedestrian. I think they will fall back pretty significantly from this past year, which as you may recall wasn't that spectacular. I would have preferred he go elsewhere, for sure, but not exactly the missing piece for the Toiletmakers. Parakeet Jones, HoosiersLoveBanners and WayneFleekHoosier 3 Quote

With Swanigan they'll be pretty good, and Spike can help with that. Quote

I don't think they're going to be good but they were definitely missing a pg last year and I do think he'll help next year. Also not sure UM will be any good either so they need the win/s over Purdue and spike could be the difference- as well in some other games against lower tier teams in the conference. Quote

Hardwood83 Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 I would also add, I'm not a fan of transfers inside the conference. Michigan is screwing themselves by pushing out these guys and I agree the players shouldn't get punished- but not a good precedent for them to move to conference rivals. MadAboutIndiana 1 Quote

I'm glad we got Max but in conference transfers will lead to trouble eventually. Quote
WayneFleekHoosier Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 Good for Spike. I don't fear this move one bit. I have always thought Spike was overrated by our fanbase. Glad we didn't offer. Purdue needs him though, so it's a good fit. But now, I root against both of them as only I can. LockdownD, IUsafety and ALASKA HOOSIER 3 Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 No regrets from me. I'm not overly concerned about our PG situation. No, it won't be a Yogi but I think we've got enough roster talent to not take that big of a step backwards. Certainly going to PUke is Spike's best move because he's absolutely guaranteed lots of playing time given their ineptness at that position. Will his body hold up? If it doesn't, Painter will get roasted from the fanbase for wasting a scholly on damaged goods. Quote
