(2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS

Recommended Posts

Tim Langford already saying another trip to Indy could happen is a good thing to me.  Even tho Vandy is tomorrow, they've already thought about Indiana again.  Sounds good to me.
It would suck if he goes to vandy but drews going for a one hit wonder season. And I'd be shocked if something shady wasn't discovered at some point. You just don't get 3 top ten players to a school liked vandy. It's never been done before. It would be like Minnesota getting Tre Jones to stay home and have 2 top ten players join him. It far fetched.

I find myself sitting here thinking about how I will feel if he doesn't come to IU.  I noticed I had a little smile/smirk on my face when thinking about this because I realized that we have a coach now that IS going to win a TON of games and get plenty of great recruits after this is long over with.  IU is gonna be awesome again regardless.  That put a smile on my face for sure.
I would feel better if we lost him to Duke or Kansas. But it's vandy for crying out loud.

My son and I said that same thing discussing it today.  It will suck if he chooses Vandy but at the end of the day, we will win with or without him.  And we will do it with badass defense and a hardnosed coach who isn't here to play around.  He's here to WIN!

It's interesting that the $EC sucked for so long then the conference commish said we need to be better as a whole. They went out and got slimy coaches and started landing top recruits. Then all the FBI stuff hits. Auburn, Alabama, kensucky, LSU, and now Vandy all are sketchy at best. The NCAA won't do crap about it because they'll lose money.

They will lose money on Kentucky. They will walk. Schools like vandy and auburn are fair game. They aren't cash cows.

I do get caught up in the moment, but Romeo always seems to perk up when talking about Vanderbilt. Kids these days are gullible. I can see why Stevens and Donovan went to NBA.

It's been Vandy all along.  Some got played...again.  Please no one act surprised when it's official like the Cleveland fans did when LeBron announced he was talking his talents to Miami or Illini fans when Cliff Alexander announced.  It's been very obvious all along what it would be.  He has been playing us though and I'm definitely rooting for Floyd Central.

So, in a week -- maybe less, I can't recall for sure -- we've gone from thinking Romeo is gonna go to IU and persuade Garland to ditch Vandy and join him, to being certain Romeo is headed to Nashville and that all is lost? ... And all this after one interview?

The worst part is 90% of the recruiting questions were geared towards Vandy since he is visiting the next day. There was a Kansas question. Sometimes you have to go through this process to determine where you go. It’s like he talks about a school and people go ape **** either way. Maybe he was asked questions that lead him to those answers (he was). Literally the most monotone, no emotion interview people will hear that drew a reaction. It is hilariously sad to me. It’s the same group every time. Scares me when he makes a decision one way or another how people will handle the news.

I thought that the "it will be cool to play with Darius" sounded like he was going to play some pickup ball while he was there. I imagine that playing/practicing at competition level (especially in this state) is a big chore for those kids and I know I would jump at the chance to just play for fun with my buddies... probably for the last time. I didn't see it anything more than that. No sunshine pumping, but I never got the vibe that the comments were pro anyone.

I can speak for myself, but when he picks Vandy I will handle it perfectly fine. College basketball recruiting is a dirty as it gets and desperate schools do what they need to get players they want. I won't blame Romeo, I'll blame the system as I have for all the other 5 stars we have missed on.

The common thread on Indiana 5 stars? Zeller, Ferrell, Blackmon? They come from independently wealthy families.

For me it's not the interview that has me commenting,
It's the general tone of the whole recruitment and the tea leaves that are being dropped along the way.

Archie will figure things out, with the guys he can get, eventually. We are seeing some signs of that now. Question remains will IU win some gray recruiting battles along the way? Until we do, our recruiting will look similar to the way it did with Crean but with our 4 stars coming from Indiana instead of the DMV.

Agreed. I don’t feel any interview he has given much if any indication where he stands. He always gives the same standard Pro’s for each school. If I were on the outside looking in and I didn’t care about IU I would laugh if he went to Kansas because he speaks the least about them, because he is asked the least about them. Honestly I have followed recruiting for close to 20 years. This is the most normal recruitment you will find. He knows he could play at Reincarnate Word and make the NBA. He is looking for one year he would be the most comfortable. Taking his time according to his plan. He has been consistent and available. I honestly don’t get it.
