Oh—in fairness they have won 3 —yes just 3 —regular season basketball conference championships in their history and there was that one year—I kid you not —one time— in their history where they made it to the elite 8 in the NCAA tourney. Heck Archie took Dayton to the elite 8! As far as history—no comparison whatsoever to IU or Kansas where basketball is king —multiple conference and NCAA championships and you play in front of packed and loud crowds instead of a half empty arena with country music being piped in for the fans. In fairness I give Vandy an educational edge but that is moot since Romeo only plans to be there for a year and he was originally favoring Louisville—enough said. Location seems at least even between IU and Vandy—Kansas further away. He is supposedly an Adidas kid who played on the Adidas AAU Circuit and IU and Kansas are Adidas schools while Vandy is Nike. Coaching—have to give the edge to Kansas here as far as proven accomplishments—but Archie is as good or better (better imo) than Drew. Players—Kansas has the advantage here. IU and Vandy would be similar in talent but Romeo has to know there is a steep learning curve for freshmen when they jump into college ball. Does he really think Shittu will be fully recovered? Even if he is —will he be better than a veteran Juwan Morgan? No way. Romeo-Juwan would be a potent 1-2 punch and Phinisee and a seasoned Devonté Green will be above average at the point and more than willing to let Romeo score. Davis and and Smith inside will be big and tough and lots of 3 and 4 Star help is on the way and you can count on one of them to surprise. If McRob and Al get a consistent jump shot —watch out. I just can’t think a friendship with Darius will be the deciding factor to pull him away from the home state school—IU—where he could be a legend. He knows it—his high school coaches know it —and his parents know it. When you look at all the factors—if he picks Kansas I won’t like it but I will understand. If he picks Vandy—I will always believe something el$e is motivating the pick because it makes no sense. Sorry—I call it like I see it. Come on Romeo—follow in Damon’s footsteps—complete your legacy—remain a Hoosier in the State that helped make you who you are. I am confident he should and will pick the Hoosiers! Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners I fully expect to be better than Vanderbilt next year regardless of which school Romeo chooses. LockdownD, cljones1979, IUBBFan1970 and 11 others 14 Quote

That might be a good time for the Langfords to come to Bloomington again. Better yet play VU and destroy them. They won't make it, they suck and so does Drewfus. Quote

Bailey7878 Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 It’s Garland. That is the deciding factor. Thank God we won’t have to deal with him again. Romeo is the last highly coveted Indiana recruit Vandy will have a chance to get.If he goes to vandy clearly it is. Drew gets none of these guys without garland. Still amazing a recruit could steer two other top ten guys to the same school. Even two man packages rarely happen let alone a three man ones. He must be a hell of a salesman.Sent from my SM-J700T using Tapatalk dbmhoosier 1 Quote
IUHAHN81 Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 My son and I were talking this weekend about being from Indiana and how much the Hoosiers mean to us. We just couldn't fathom going anywhere else If given that opportunity. Literally I could care less about going somewhere sunny, playing with other 5 stars, playing with friends, hell even getting paid! Being from Indiana, having the opportunity to play for IU....its just a given. I know everyone values something different but if ur from Indiana and basketball is your thing, there is no other University. I've never claimed to be smart by any means but I'll never understand how u pass that opportunity up being from Indiana. tortex28, thebigweave, Iugradman and 2 others 5 Quote

There just aren’t enough Indiana folks that feel this way anymore. Popular Post TheWatShot Posted February 19, 2018 Popular Post Posted February 19, 2018 He could play for a coach who knows how to minimize his disadvantages, created an effective blueprint to slow down an archrival that still hasn't been countered 8 games later, and has the foresight to acknowledge what could cause burnout among his older players. Or he could play for a coach who says "Let's make passes" and "Let's not get our shots blocked." This shouldn't be that difficult, should it? pumpfake, thebigweave, jonz44 and 7 others 10 Quote

The relevancy of the Hoosiers isn’t where it once was either. Let’s face it, IU hoops is very important to a large group of die hard fans from around the country, but the state of Indiana no longer lives and breathes IU basketball. Especially with the emergence of Butler and Notre Dame, and the resurgence of Purdue. No high schoolers were even alive the last time Indiana won a championship. Really, at this point, most weren’t even alive when IU last made a final 4. It’s an unfortunate but true scenario. If Indiana is going to make it back to the glory years, it going to have to be done with great coaching and hard work. Not the best recruiting classes.. Looking through my crimson-colored glasses, IU should be the choice from a basketball perspective and Vandy for a let's have a fun time with my friend stand point. While it seems like a no-brainer, we're still talking about a teenager. Frankly, I pin a lot of my optimism on Tim Langford's ability to deduct what is best for his son - it seems he really likes IU. HoosierMatty Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 (edited) Indiana has to regain credibility with the younger generation of fans. Most kids now weren't alive when Indiana was great. All they know are old stories. Living in New Albany it's a harder sell with UofL and UK around. I get the feeling Romeo never grew up rooting for or caring about IU. That doesn't mean he isn't interested. I'm getting the feeling his family and his coaches want IU. He wants Vanderbilt but has been waivering some. It will really come down to whether his family and coaches will have enough sway. Also Indiana has to have one last meeting. I think that is really important.
