Terry Hutchens for CNHI newspapers:  http://www.heraldbulletin.com/sports/iu-lands-four-star-in-state-commit-in-phinisee/article_5cae6e9e-8529-11e7-a8af-0713cc58b984.html     [Per Terry, he's apparently shrunk back to 5'11"]  Also states RP is believed to be the first scholarship basketball player since 1948 from Tippecanoe County.  NOTE:  Hutch was wrong on this.  Broderick Lewis 2008-2009 was the last.

Q & A from Inside The Hall:  http://www.insidethehall.com/2017/08/19/q-2018-point-guard-robert-phinisee-talks-iu-commitment/

On Archie Miller and what stands out:

“I’ve talked to him a lot and sometimes we don’t even talk about basketball. So I got to see the other part of him that people don’t get to see too much. He’s a great guy. He’s a big reason I chose Indiana.”

Pap, any insight or even just a gut feeling how the Phinisee commitment would be viewed by Langord?  Is it a plus, a minus, or just a meh in our efforts with Romeo?

I'm no Pap, but now Archie has four top-100ish recruits to sell Romeo with. Romeo would have plenty of talent to play with but he'd still be the unquestioned #1 guy on the team.

Thats just my unsolicited opinion lol.

That's not an opinion right there. That's a fact

Yeah I think Romeo wants to be the top dog wherever he goes, but he also knows he needs some help. Landing RP shows him even further that he'll have plenty of talent to help him win here.

Don't see how it makes any difference at all to Romeo except that it shows CAM came in late and landed some top 100 guys. Phinisee will not be running the show next year and that's all that I expect Langford to be around. More important to Romeo is too see how the team looks this season and sell Romeo on what IU and CAM can do for him.

What Romeo sees is 4 bigs that will make up a good to great frontcourt, wings that can defend and shoot and guards that have talent and experience just no star power on the team and he would give us that. Durham, Green, CuJo, Phinisee and Anderson are good enough in the backcourt, but we will get at least 1 more kid to fill it out IMO. I also expect a grad transfer big. Idk why but I know Archie sees the '19 class like a difference maker and will want the extra scholly. Unless Garland wants to come too. I am very excited that we can almost give Romeo 100% of our attention now.

That's a best case scenario, imo. Would fill a huge need with an experienced guy without long-term scholarship implications.

I'm rooting for him, big time.  Curious to see how the PT works out.

Imo Garland and all other point guard options are done.  Probabaly already were.

Onwards to Romeo to wrap things up.  If we get Romeo and don't get Mr. Basketball between Langford, RP, and DA that would be a major shock.

IF we do get Romeo as our final piece we add 6'8", 6'7", 6'6", 6'5", 6'0" in Race, Hunter, Anderson, Romeo and RP.

I'd really would have liked to have found a 6'10" type player somewhere but I don't see how.

Great class to start, especially if Rob lives up to his hype here and other places.

Welcome to the Hoosiers--Robert!  Great pick-up! I will take a 4 star Indiana kid who WANTS to play for IU any day of the week. Arch is on the March. He has now taken recruits out of Purdue's, Ohio State's, Minnesota's, and Notre Dame's back yards. Who knows-- maybe we get one out of Louisville's back yard next! All in for Langford! Arch is on the March!

Moses Brown is still out there. Unless that has cooled.

They are really hitting 2019 hard for big men. The 2018 class is a really weak class for post players. Plus the late start.

Forrester is still out there and will visit soon, but tbh I hope that doesn't work out.

I'm partial to trust the staff here, but I just don't see how that recruitment makes sense, especially when I think of how good of a position we're in with 2019 bigs, and Forrester isn't close to as good as any of them.

Regardless, happy to have wrapped up a point guard in this class.
