Old Friend Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 have you met a UK fan? I think they are feeling pretty good about their situation And every one of them has sold his soul for the sake of a collection of talent to whom they have no personal loyalty. That's not Indiana's culture, and I have no interest in it BEING Indiana's culture. Someone else said they don't want "Wisconsin success," and I can't disagree more. They've won the Big Ten 4 times since 2002 (which should be our goal every season because it means we've got a chance nationally), never finished below 4th; have 7 Sweet 16's, and two Final Fours. They're in the conversation every year. They're a top 10 team in the country 3 of every 4 years. No, they've never won it, but they're in position all the time and just haven't gotten it done. That can change with circumstances and match ups. Once you get to the Elite 8, every team there is fantastic and playing well. It's very hard to measure success simply by national championships. We all want them, but if you have smart, talented players who play for each other and play together, you're going to have success. We've had a bunch of "me first" guys, and also our share of low basketball IQ kids. We've had our share of kids who need the ball and need to dribble. FK Football said Crean's a lame duck coach, and while I hope he's right, I still see some talent and potential in the list of kids he's after, Still don't think signing Grant first is a story at all. Old Friend Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 It's just one season though, at this point I don't give a crap about one good season. He's already shown he can't sustain it or build on it, that's where we should be at now. Precisely. Winning next season is expected, and it's time after being very ordinary and even bad by our standards the last 2 seasons. Winning every 4th year is not enough, and Glass knows that. Crean's not Indiana's long term guy. Glass knows that, too. A fun thread would be "if not Brad Stevens, then who?" - for our long term answer. I'm not sure I know who I'd even put on the list. I wish I felt that way about Glass, but I'm not sure he does know that I think he's got the same "eh, good enough" attitude some of our fans have. I think we'll have to get a new AD to get a new coach. Dalton26, Alford Bailey and trailrunner 3 Quote
Josh Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 Wow. This guy is a perfect example of whether Indiana kids are better than highly ranked out of state kids. It'll be interesting to watch him to see if that side has any merit. Welcome to Indiana University Gelon ccgeneral, scots07 and Dalton26 3 Quote
lelgar4 Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 The problem is, that we landed him and not Kyle Guy. Crean is a lame duck coach and most of the State knows it. We need a big season. I don't believe that IU can ever be a program like Wisconsin under Crean. That would involve building a program and I don't think Crean knows how to do that, he has yet to prove that he can produce a consistent, product year in and year out. Wisconsin had done that with good recruiting and great coaching. Bringing in kids like Gelon and never hearing a thing about them for two years, graduating an all-bigten kid and having Gelon step in as upperclassmen and never miss a beat. Crean needs top talent to be good, which means he needs to bring in 3 to 4 starter level players in '16 or he/IU will be bad again next year. He needs '16 to be a reload class or we're screwed. Quote

Beowulf50 Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 This made me laugh. Cream is not a lame duck coach. He has a season like he should, then he will be fine. If not, then he will be in trouble. If we win the championship some would still criticize and say but we won't win it next year. Some on here will never give Crean credit no matter what. I think we will have a very good year and I can't wait. scots07, Stuhoo and Josh 3 Quote

It just shouldn't be! Yeah, that's the problem with even mentioning CTC in a thread. Much of what has been said relates directly to the new commit and CTC is part of that, but its to easy for that to turn into another CTC argument. There is no way any thread about IU basketball can avoid some discussion of Crean, but it gets out of control to easy. Best to just drop it. If you want to have that discussion, start a new thread. Leave this one to Grant Gelon. mdn82 1 Quote
Str8Hoosiers Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 How about a Top 20 player that doesn't play for the name on the front? I'll take that. Kids now don't commit to schools. At least not top kids. Good chance this kid ends his Indiana career with almost no PT. I wouldn't want that kind of kid... mamasa 1 Quote
colonel06 Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 Understand a scholy has been offered accor. to the NWI Times . In the interview the kid is absolutely honored and very thankful for the opportunity to play for IU. It doesn't sound like he would transfer but grow within the program. Guess Ill have to go to more Crown Point games this season. mamasa and ALASKA HOOSIER 2 Quote

Popular Post trailrunner Posted August 18, 2015 Popular Post Posted August 18, 2015 Let me ask you all this; would you rather have unranked Indiana kid who loves IU & can stroke or a bottom end 100 player from dmv who plays for himself and not the name on the front? Are those my only options? How about the top 2 or 3 Indiana kids and a top 10 from elsewhere. You want another banner then recruit like the Dukes of the world. IU must get top 10-15 talent and keep the best Hoosiers at home. That will do. I'm not sure this staff can do that. Alford Bailey, IUsafety, 8bucks and 7 others 10 Quote
