Was my immediate thought as well. My impression w/o the stats is teams have been and are continuing to get/play older post Covid and through the portal, which has affected frosh recruiting and playing time across the board.

Based on just what we know from the stats above, my hypothesis is that that isn't true.. Everyone can't index towards playing older players as it's ultimately close to a zero game by age group across all D1 schools. (I guess more kids could be pushed towards juco/DII out of college, but I bet it's not a material number).

If high majors are indexing more towards older players, I would expect to see a relative talent infusion of freshmen at mid-major and low-major ranks (compared to what they would have gotten in the past) and see their PPG numbers be higher than power 5, not lower.

I'd be interested to see the ultimate stats. It's not a zero game if we're talking playing time for frosh -- it's not whether or not they get signed to a college team, it's how much the frosh play, and I do think we're seeing 'older' teams in that frosh are playing less now that there are many more veteran players available to be picked up by other teams.

Jizzle James dismissed from Cincinnati.

Apparently, he posted a screenshot over the summer of a conversation with his agent saying he wanted to leave Cincy but his agent told him he had to stay at that point. That's probably the "personal issue" the school referred to. He may have also not been getting along with at least 1 teammate publicly since he is said to have posted screenshots with one them last night.

Tennessee signs Rick Barnes to a “lifetime contract.” Dude’s 71 and, I think, has 1 more year on his deal. So signing him to something like a 3 year extension probably would have served the same purpose. But structuring it like that is certainly a nice bouquet for the school to throw his way and he’s anbsolutely earned it.

Always thought UT (Texas) was silly to fire him, had them in the tourney every year, brought in Durant….

It was pretty rough at the end. Missed the tourney and two 11 seeds in the last four years. Didn’t make it out of the first weekend for 7 yrs straight. Only one FF in 15 yrs isn’t going to get you lifetime tenure. Heckuva coach though, so I am not sure what went wrong there at the end.
