Mountain Brook remains on top of Class 7A. Trendon Watford capped his remarkable high school career with 22 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Spartans (31-3) to a 61-42 victory over Baker in tonight’s 7A championship game at Birmingham’s Legacy Arena. The victory gives Mountain Brook three straight 7A state titles and five in the last seven seasons. Baker (21-14) was shooting for its first state basketball championship. Right before Romeo committed, there were several on here the insinuated that the Langford family was playing the money game during the recruitment. Once the Adidas Reports came out some believe that the family didn't want to get caught up in it and pulled the trigger for us. Same scenario, with the Watford family....some on here with the same accusations. With possibly KBJ choosing UK, could we see Watford, not wanting to get caught up with the LSU fiasco and our offer looking better perhaps him pulling for us? While the commit was only a 6’4” guard, Memphis now has three recruits for the 2019 season at or over 6’7”, the #2 player in the nation at Center, an unproven coach, and retuning big men. I think it’d be crazy to go to LSU right now, especially before everything presumably blows over. Is it too much of wishful thinking to believe that would leave Watford with just us, Bama, and a Duke team still in the run for Matthew Hurt that hasn’t offered Watford... If they miss the tourney this year which they likely will unless they can get a few wins in the SEC tourney his seat could be warm. Quote
