Did you watch the interview with Tyler Morris recently? He is also not in class. Said he graduated last year and was not taking class right now. I really feel like if you are playing on a college team you should HAVE to take classes. Fish was interviewing him. I think it was on the Cig's show last week. Hardwood83 1 Quote

I don’t think schools on the quarter system have started yet. There are a handful of P4s that are and oddly enough most are in the B1G. Of course, that’s if we’re doing logic which appears to be completely off the table. Quote

Surely having 1/2 eligible and 1/2 not, based entirely on where they filed suit isn't a tenable result...is it? Quote

If the NCAA's main objective is to get Congress to pass a bill, I think it's not only a tenable result but their desired outcome. Quote

The vast majority of FB and MBB players take classes. There are some who don’t… but Tyler got his degree so his case is hardly troubling. He’s learning plenty playing football in reality. Probably true, but having some percentage of "student-athletes" that are actually just full-time athletes is a drastic departure from the past. And that is only one aspect. The unlimited transfers, NIL mania, pro's returning, & mega conferences has all combined to make it nearly unrecognizable from just 10yrs ago. Not trying to turn this into a doom & gloom thread, but poiting out that having players that aren't college students in college sports kinda defeats the purpose, no? Yeah, I have 2 kids at IU, and there are players in their classes. One of my kids is in a group project with a football player. So the narrative that they don’t go to class isn’t true, at least at IU. And remote classes still count as classes. Quote

The NCAA requires 12 credit hours, everyone is taking classes until they get a degree. Now once someone gets their degree they don’t have to take more classes. I just don’t think that’s a problem. Heck most players learn more being on a football team than they would in some lecture hall listening to a bozo professor. Tyler got injured last year and couldn’t play, now he’s using his eligibility. He’s got his degree. It’s a reasonable situation. ronzo4IU 1 Quote
Hovadipo Posted yesterday at 02:47 PM Posted yesterday at 02:47 PM Morris may not be taking any classes right now, but he didn't say he isn't taking any. He said "I don't really have much classes right now" which makes me think English isn't one of them, but the point remains. jepwatso, ALASKA HOOSIER, ronzo4IU and 1 other 4 Quote

Yea, for some of them. College is what you make of it. There has always been an option for an athlete or really any student to take really easy stuff and get a peice of paper that says General Studies. It’s a wasted opportunity, but the bare minimum has been around decades. And in some cases I get it. Quote

A lot of football and basketball players are just doing the bare minimum academically when they are really there to be part of the multi-billion dollar athletics complex. And there's definitely a lot of academic cheating, overly supportive advisers/tutors, etc. The ones who want to make the most of their academic opportunities would probably IMO still have that option in a world where college athletics separate from the NCAA and officially become the developmental pro league that they have been operating as for decades already. The ones who aren't so academically inclined could focus on their actual profession with the benefit of collective bargaining to compensate them appropriately and help set them up for life after sports. The general studies type degrees do basically nothing for the guys who graduate with them already anyway, so I don't think there's a very real societal benefit to them being forced to get worthless degrees in the name of preserving college athletics. This level of football is as good as it's going to get for the vast majority of them. I find it pathetic the NCAA is begging for Congress to bail them out at the expense of athletes rather than being a forward thinking organization and actually, I dunno, leading / governing effectively. Forward thinking and effective governing are descriptors that have never been used for the NCAA. Too much inertia to expect a change now. They're hoping for a Bail Mary like Michigan got because that's the only way the institution will survive. Ingrained into the NCAA is the idea that everything must be at the cost of the athletes.
