It's clear that May has made the adjustment... hopefully, DeVries will, as well.

I think he probably knows what he needs.  The question is can he get them.  Dusty had more NIL and was a much more attractive coach to come play for.

It was an adjustment, and one he made going in as he built a roster to compete and did so.  Did he have to further adjust during the season -- sure.   

And Dusty's comments simply reinforce CDDv's "cluelessness."   Heck, if the last new Big10 coach is on tape saying it, how the farque do you miss it?  It's not like it's some secret.

If Dusty said it multiple times, then how the hell isn't DeVries prepared to deal with it?  Big red flag to me.  I hope he figures it out.  

Some of you guys are acting like it is some big state secret, when all you have to do is spend a few minutes on the internet.

It’s the new “the defense takes 4 years to install” narrative fans will latch onto to cope and justify losing. 
 

Everyone copes differently, so I get it. 
 

Him admitting that out loud adds to my concerns, and certainly doesn’t alleviate it. 
 

Like Woodson with his guard play talk and change of styles. lol.

It’s basically any fanbase with size and losing results. Kentucky fans are definitely the worst of the worst though.  And their results aren’t even that bad.  
 

The one that got me this year was the Purdue fans turning on Braden Smith and Purdue this year. 
 

It just goes to show you can’t be thinned skinned and you can’t worry about the vocal minority.  The staff needs to be equipped to educate the players how to handle it. 
 

Woodson and staff/players went about it every wrong way possible.  He was not the right type of leader to handle fan adversity.  Still has his defenders going against the fanbase on the daily.

Crean's last 4 seasons: NCAA 5 seed - sweet 16. NCAA 10 seed - first round exit. Missed tourney. Missed tourney.

Woodson's 4 seasons: NCAA 4 seed - second round. NCAA 12 seed - first round exit. Missed tourney. Missed tourney.

Crean's last 4 years, combined 38-34 (52.8%) in the Big Ten. Woodson went 41-39 (51.3%).

So I guess it makes sense that the same poster who was so adamant that Woodson needed more time, also wanted to give Crean another decade.

Kentucky will somehow be the top spender or 2 again. I really don’t know where they get their funding but it’s beyond impressive. 
 

I don’t LOVE DeVries but I think I like him better than Pope. Pope has had some pressers that make me worried for his mental health.  I’m not sure he’s built for that.

If anyone thinks our fans are bad, if UK had our last 9 years those fans would leave Lexington in ruins.

Imagine that, they’re usually so nuanced over there. In fairness I don’t think you can fire the guy. They didn’t have Quaintance or Lowe basically all year and that’s not nothin’. That’s your starting 1 and starting 5, though the Quaintance thing was 100% on them for being deeply stupid. But the inability of Johnson and Hawthorne to help them combined with no ‘26’s at all is pretty concerning.

Do you want your head coach scouring the internet for interviews of other schools coaches? lol. You don’t like DeVries I get it. You’re trying to find anything to validate your opinion.

My point is other coaches have underestimated it. Nobody says the Big Ten isn’t physical. But DeVries came from the Big12 which is arguably the best conference in basketball. It’s not as physical as the Big. I can see where a coach who did ok with an injury to his star player would think he would be ok in the Big this year. 
 

To me I’m very optimistic if they get the roster construction correct. I saw proof of concept in the style of play. The style works. I also saw massive flaws last spring in the roster construction that made the team very limited, a bubble team. And we ended up on the wrong side bubble. This wasn’t like Archie losing to IPFW or Woodson who doesn’t know how to coach spacing or that the 3 point shot was invented. The freshman class is a good one coming in. There are reasons to be optimistic. The next month will tell us a lot. Let’s see how it plays out.
