....I would imagine we will start hearing chatter about current IU players either entering the transfer portal or staying soon. I also wouldn't be surprised to hear of DeVries making some coaching staff changes.

Sisley to Michigan rumors out there

I've been telling y'all - there's a tangible reason that Sisley got pretty much zero run during our end of season losing streak. With unrestricted free agency, someone give me a good reason why an Indiana kid that's being recruited by Dusty May wouldn't be very, very interested.

Occam's Razor; the most likely explanation is usually the correct one. And in this instance Occam would conclude that he's never getting game time because his family has already expressed that IU is not his future, and that Michigan would be a more attractive program than IU.

Dusty has no issue tampering. Look how he got arguably the best but from Illinois last year. I have no issue with tampering and I hope IU is doing it behind the scenes through agents.

No coach has any issue with 'tampering'. Hell, I'm not even sure if tampering is formally defined or actually restricted within the rules. And if a player representative proactively reaches out to a program, the program will not hang up the phone.

Yea.  The conference even sees the reality of tampering.

Pretty much this. Pro leagues are governed by the league office and CBA. Things are defined, including penalties for breaking those rules.

Reason #567890 the B1G and SEC should disband the NCAA and set up their own thing.

Not nearly as high on Sisley as the rest of the board but it would sure suck to have a freshmen from Indiana who grew up a fan of IU get poached by Dusty.

I’m in the same boat. But assuming this rumor is true the problem would be two-fold.

1) He’s one of our very few returning “building blocks.” The type of player that’s supposed to make it easier to build rosters going forward.

2) If we’re just ok again and Michigan is good while Dusty coaxes out some pretty good production from Sisley, DDV is going to find most of his new hire goodwill used up.

Luckily, this is likely just a rumor and most of the guys that transfer out of here stink at other places too.

Not surprised.  At this point, UM is a better program with a better coach.  I don't blame Sisley at all.

IMO, Sisley leaving will really hurt our Indiana recruiting.  This kid came to Indiana because it was Indiana regardless of the coach.  Bad look...

CDD deserves more time however he didn't show all that much this year especially in the end run where we lost all of those games.  Concerning things with coaching especially adjustments.  I get the roster construction was poor, he took too long to get assistants, etc.  But we still should be able to beat NW with that roster.  He was outcoached twice and the players were defeated when they got down.  All of it doesn't invoke much confidence for next year.  Although we have Carr now, CDD/staff still have to be able to sell these guys on why they should come to IU.  We have money and playing time but not much else.  Time will tell.  I hope we find the players we need in the portal, but I can't say I am very optimistic about next season being much different from this one. I very much hope I am wrong.

If I had a kid come and tell me that in the middle of the year, I would just throw him off the team.

We don't want to have our program be in the spot where in conference rivals are poaching kids we want to keep here from us.  I hope this rumor is false.

FWIW, Sisley played 19 minutes against Michigan and only played ten minutes or more two times after that -- against UCLA, where it was needed because of guys fouling out and OT, and Minnesota -- he played ten minutes in a 30 point blowout win.

There is not such thing as "tampering."  Or please point me to the rule.  These players are on one year contracts that expire on their last game played.  It is definitely within the "rules" to say hey kid, when you're done you should look at us.  :)

But wouldn't the opposite be true?  Hey, we know you may be looking elsewhere but we invested in you and are going to play you until you drop.  Burying him on the bench basically tells him to leave.

It’s actually a NCAA rule that you can’t. So you call the agent before they say they are entering the portal to get around the rule, unless that loophole got changed. Nobody listens to it bc it’s not enforceable. The Big Ten actually petitioned the NCAA to not even look at these cases and to do a comprehensive rules overhaul on the issue.

Hey I don’t give a crap about ncaa rules. I wanted IU to pay players for the last 25 years.  Tamper away and get things lined up and hit a home run the day the portal opens.

We knew this thing was going to be rough when we didn't have anyone on our staff with any real recruiting connections. Moikobu and Murphy would've created a completely different situation for us and I still believe that was what DD thought he had. Adams was going to serve a short term purpose of acclimating DD to the state and connecting him to the aau circuit in-state. But it all fell apart and Drew Adams and Nic Norton built our roster. That did force early conversations with Carr and I think there will be an NBA approach to building this roster. Did Adams make any in roads in Europe? That's the only reason to keep him. Kenny serves zero purpose. Geoff Alexander is the guy forthr FIBA circuit and Chin Coleman is an established recruiter of national perimeter talent. That's where it needs to start and someone that can hold their own in-state....

DD can coach.
