That’s a pretty good read. I’ve heard that recording a hundred times. I got a kick out of the former players who play it for their HS aged kids.

This in the middle of one of the best runs in the history of their program.  Fans are not the biggest problem, fans are fans.  When you are losing it just highlights the biggest losers in a fanbase.  So I don't completely dismiss that some guys are turned off by our wackos.  But the wackos weren't the problem, the losing was. The problem has always been picking the wrong guys to be in charge.

Looking at Purdue they might be in trouble next year.  They lose a lot of contributors. And even if Painter wants to reload in the portal assuming he can his system has always benefitted from guys playing multiple seasons. 
 

I’m not saying they will suck. But their window to win a NC might have already closed.

Purdue starts 2 true seniors and a super senior. If they make any kind of run in March, I wonder if the media will hyper-fixate on how their average age is older than some NBA teams.

That will never happen. It only happens for Indiana football because the media cannot accept that we got a great coach who knows how to build, motivate and coach a team. Everyone else will get a pass.

Yep, without Smith & Kaufman they are a team of role players. Pretty average role players actually.

However…… He’s continuing to be  a "mediocre in-game coach" prone to "tournament failure." Sounds “whiny” after IU loss.

Patience with him may be running thin.

Put me in the I don't think Matt is going anywhere camp.  I'd guess he coaches another 15 years.  He's one of those sort of guys.

He's very good I've got to admit.  His track record except a couple years (a recruiting philosophy mistake he corrected) has been pretty darn good.

I just want to see them not be a title threat.

I'm curious how things will go as they fully get into the NIL era.  It feels like it's been delayed due to Edey, who was the ultimate crutch -- a 2x NPOY that PU was paying maybe 1/3 of what he was worth.  And also this year they really passed the hat to go all-in on their seniors and keep everyone and get Cluff.  They're probably spending as much or more than we are on our roster this year.

Hopefully next year they actually slow down.  They lose their top four scorers and PU's NIL isn't great, and they'll have to figure out how to spend between reloading MBB and trying to fix their FB problems.

That said, as long as Matt is there, I expect them to be pretty good.  There is no denying he is a very good coach.

Painter recruits to his style of play and doesn't chase 'stars'.   I agree there won't be any undue pressure for him to leave unless they would hit a multi-year slump.  As long as he produces a winning record and is competitive in conference he'll be OK.

I suspect Painter will be at Purdue as long as Painter wants to be at Purdue.

I think he will want to be there for the rest of his career unless he becomes convinced they can't win a title there because of lacking NIL or some other structural issue... you never know, but hard to imagine him elsewhere.

I dunno, a starting lineup of Cox, Benter, Mayer, Jacobsen, and Harris seems like even though it's full of fairly proven commodities, it will be 'just okay', but not necessarily top half of the B1G. Benter is probably the single upside/most potentially valuable player from that group.

We all have family and friends that are Purdue fans.  All I have heard from my Purdue fan is bellyaching about Painter not winning the tournament.  I heard their whining for the past 10 + years.
