Related to this, I worry about how well he connects with recruits and even the team.  If I'm not inspired, are they?  Perhaps they are, we've landed Wilkerson and some nice HS players, but it still worries me. 

Lastly, he mentioned "the hump" in his MSU post-game presser.  That gave me a visceral reaction.  The SID should tell him to not to use that word for the good of IUBB public relations.  

I could be wrong of course.  This is just how I feel.  I don't really know how effective CDD is day to day with recruits and the team.  It just seems off so far.  Good news is this can improve, and I guess it may just take some winning and it will all feel better.  I don't know...

If we win it won’t matter. Who knows, Mark Few doesn’t exactly light up a room. Hopefully it works for DD.

I'm a lot less concerned about DeVries' demeanor in press conferences and a lot more concerned with what his actual plan is. 

 

Cignetti has been successful here because he had an effective plan and put it into action very quickly. 

 

DeVries looked like he had to pick between winning now and building for later, and rather than committing to one or the other, tried to do both. Missing the tournament won't be a death knell for him, but it's still going to go down as a wasted year.

This off season is going to be a complete rebuild, just like last. Who do you trust more to be able bring in top tier talent AND coach it effectively in order to immediately competitive? He is about the same age as Cig, and seems to still have a lot of energy. His kid is coaching at Auburn, so no longer a ‘package’ succession deal. He has to be missing the action as March Madness swings around. 

Quick and easy talk between Dolson and Buckner/Ferguson about the forced 4th season of Woodson, that was largely responsible for putting us in the spot we’re in…and a quick point to what Dusty has done since we let Woody keep cooking! Fundraising for DD’s buyout automatically complete.

Bruce likes the bright lights and knows how to win…from the jump. Get it done!!

I would take Bruce...but that ship has sailed. CDD is our coach and frankly we should all get behind him. We don't know if he's going to work out, but I think he has a better chance of working out than not.

I would say that he built this year's roster in an attempt to win now; it's very much a veteran roster. And if you agree with that, then yes, it's a wasted year.

Kind of funny…I had a reply earlier to Pagoda that I apparently didn’t hit submit on, saying most elite coaches are kind of domineering or big personalities or both. The one counter example I could think of was Mark Few.
 

Still as good as Gonzaga has been I would guess there is less pressure and scrutiny, day in and day out, than a job like IU’s. Which may explain why he’s never jumped at any of the numerous opportunities over the years.

It’s really all a mess.  I like DDV but I’m not convinced he’s a big brain type.  He’s a hard worker type, which I respect, but the best of the best think outside of the box on and off the court.  It bums me out, because I want him to be better than he is.

I think that’s why we brought in a GM.  Let him worry about the basketball and if it’s not better we know.  Idk. But yeah it’s all mess and Dolson has a real problem

His son is a 5th year senior. Nobody in that position is going to burn the year rebuilding with young guys like Todd Golden or a couple other coaches did.

The idea was fine. Needed to win. Build momentum. Proof of concept. Etc.  Unfortunately selling out to do that, then building a mid roster and getting mid results says it all.  
 

 Now Carr saying it’s gonna take years.  lol.  What are we doing.

I don’t think he said that it would take years to win.  He said it would take years to balance the roster by class, so you don’t have to replace a whole roster.  Sounds like he is a build thru HS recruits and supplement needs via the portal.

Seen many problems with the daddy ball route - often unavoidable impact to team chemistry - unless the kid is a bench guy that’s just along for the ride. (ala Pat Knight) McDermott’s perhaps the exception to the rule - but, probably easier to pull off in the MVC pre-NIL.
