Boeheim made the second weekend 20 times. 5 final fours.

He coached for almost half a century. Syracuse isn’t a blue blood because of it but they’re in the mix for the second rate programs.  5 FFs over 40 years is one every eight.

Up until a few years ago Izzo averaged one every four. Before he fell off so did Knight (plus 3 titles). K averaged better than one FF per four years. So did Roy Williams. Calhoun was one FF per five-ish years but won 3 titles.

Boheim isn’t one of the greats by any measure. Flawed system. I’d rather IU keep rolling the dice than babysit a good, but not great, coach who might win a title in 2056. No thanks.

Yes.  Exactly.  It was 10-11 million by most reports. Lamar was near 2.5.  Bailey was near 1.5.  Maybe Tuck was near 2, I’m not sure on him. 750 for Conerway.  On and on. About 10-11 total. Which puts us around 10-25 most in the country. Which should be a relative scale to where expectations can fairly lie. I think we got outspent by a lot of teams that we didn’t expect to pony up. I think we thought 10 million would put us around 10th but in reality we ended up closer to 20th.

We should have built a top 25 roster.  That’s the goal when you spend that level of money. Otherwise it’s a relative failure. Then getting results is the next step.  Get more out of less or less out of more is the big coaching evaluation. Jury is out on DeVries both on roster building and team improvement.

Coach DDv doesn’t have the clout to build a top 25 roster.  He has to coach up what he can get and work from there.  Make the tournament and he’ll be headed in the right direction.

I don’t think DeVries is a great coach. I don’t think he will ever be a great coach, great coaches are rare in my opinion. You either have to get lucky to get one, or be willing to overpay and then it is no sure thing because you still have to get players that fit and stay healthy. Eventually, Indiana is just going to have to pick a guy and stick with him, the longer a guy is here the better connections he makes and the greater the chances he can land the top recruits he needs to be successful. Whether DeVries is the guy to stick with, I don’t know, but you can’t just keep changing coaches every 4 or 5 years and expect to build a successful program.

You can clearly model great coaches.  I don’t know enough about CDdv to make that determination yet, but unfortunately I’m learning no.

Beginning to doubt that Sisley is back next year. No info just a strange drop off for a guy who really shined early. In a blow out loss to PU he barely plays?

Maybe he's seeing/learning the TD role he could be filling next year, with more size and athleticism. Can't wait to see the improvement from this kid, with a full year under his belt. I really believe he can be a major contributor next year. Hope he believes this too.

I still laugh at the fact that Mike Davis’ last year (forced him to resign) we were a top 5 team in conference and a 6 seed. We would be celebrating a season like that now. Shows how far down the rabbit hole we are

Or CTC’s last season we had beaten a top 3 Kansas on neutral court to start the year before losing OG and missing the tourney. One year following winning the B1G championship

Wonder if there’s a change in our transfer portal strategy this year. Michigan is basically all transfers but they  all came from power conferences except yaxel who was a first round pick. A lot of former 5 stars and high 4 stars that had more to show. We tried the mid American all star route which outside of Lamar idk how successful it was

I think you can get mid major guards but you can't rely on mid major bigs. I think you will miss more than you hit with those.

Also that Boeheim cheated, including bringing in academically unqualified players and disregarding various then governing ncaa rules, is now pretty well recognized. Not a fan.

The starting point problem here is the assumption DeVries’ recruiting after his late hire with 0 staff was strategic. IU had just once again missed the tournament, had 8 years of mediocre results, had 0 returning players, players recruited to Woodson’s failed front-court non-outside shooting teams, zero staff. That’s the opposite of hitting the ground running.

If we make the tourney (I think we will), which is step 1 on this obvious complete rebuild, he’ll have a year of budding success grounded in high output 3-point shooting/ guard play and a staff in place and returning players to add pieces to in a system already in place. This offseason (and next) is very important but no reason to tie it conceptually to last year, as if DeVries would go chasing mid-tier players. He’ll chase the best with more time to get them.
He knows we’re undersized for the B1G, he knows we need more athletic forwards. He landed Wilkerson and beat UK to get him, that’s the kind of guard he wants, who he’ll pursue and how many forwards remains to be seen but what he was able to do starting with nothing is not somehow the model

I’m in the same boat here. This offseason will be big for him, IMO. Last year he didn’t have any staff help him assemble a roster so I’ll give him a pass on this season. He just got the best he could get going mid majors.

Freshman wall. Happens all the time.

Cant really think of anyone. He averaged almost 17 minutes a game and had pretty consistent minutes through the first 6 BT games. The last 10 that has dropped to 7 minutes.  If you look at the non-con plus those 6 games he averaged over 22 minutes a game. You can give me recent examples of this since it happens all the time?

Sisley is a 4. He got backup minutes as a 3 early in the season when we were short handed. Dorn returning from injury and then earning an expanded role has filled most of those minutes. Not that complicated.

absolutely... he's without a doubt a 4... his best attribute is his rebounding, tbh. He's always been a 4... although, Woodson probably would have played him at the 2. lol ... He's a banger, though, rebounding rates ---- TDV -- DReb % 14 OReb %-- 2 (9.5% total) ...... Sisley 18%, 8% (13% total)

Probably comes back at 6'8 230 next year, ready to roll..
