The chicken little complex is extremely strong in our fanbase.

Eh…there’s an equally opposite side of the fan base that declared this roster too poorly constructed to make the tourney and wanted to punt on this year and give  Devries a pass for his first year in early January.  This thread is a reminder of that too.

The truth is the team wasn’t anywhere where it needed to be at the start of conference play, and that’s on the coach. I maintained that the roster was capable of making the tourney—even after the Iowa debacle—and that a good coach would get it turned around. I’m glad we’re seeing that. I think it bodes well for the future. Although I am curious as to how he handles the Conerway situation. I think if he mishandles that there’sa small chance the team slips back into some of the dysfunction we saw earlier.

Hmmm after a couple of games ( the only ones I watched because I was too dug in in football) I’m wondering why we have this thread.

I’m picturing what this team would be with better incoming recruits and I see the potential there. The only thing I would critique is that the Coach needs to purposefully call more plays in the paint to at least keep defenders honest.
The kids at least hustle and played better defense than any of our teams the past 15 years.

Guys and ladies what am I missing?

If you only saw the last couple games you don't have the full picture.  Things were really awful as we played bad basketball without hustle against Iowa.  And Minnesota.  And Michigan State.  And Nebraska.  And Michigan.  Multiple logo shots per game that didn't come close.  Driving to a spot and picking up the dribble with no idea where to go next.  And a coach who didn't seem to care.

Over the last three games most of that is cleaned up.  There is still baffling bad basketball at times (including the last 3 minutes of regulation last night) but it's much better than it was.

The overall picture is what you're missing.

We have this thread because a small subset of our fans cannot handle any level of adversity without losing their minds. And that type of person loves to complain on the internet.

This thread was posted halfway through our new coach's first season, at which point the team was 12-6, 3-4 in conference.

I am not a mod but I think the existence of this thread is kind of embarrassing to our fanbase.

Oh yay!  "True fan" arguments incoming...

Agreed. This thread is silly and way premature which I and others referenced way at the beginning when it was made. Recent play and recent top 100 commits making it look even more silly. Are there some issues with this team? Sure, but damn, the team, the players are so much more likable and more fun to watch than the Woodson’s teams. Plus, we’re squarely in the tournament, something we haven’t been able to say the last 3 years. We’re only going to get better with DeVries at the helm.

People laugh but this is fair and honest.  Had we dropped that game last night where it really looked like we would heading to OT we’d be the most bubblicious team out there.  Plus the 4 game stretch of play was really bad.

Going 1 PG and three shooters has given our season rejuvenated hope.  I was calling for this early as we were too easily covered with 2 guys taking all the shots.

And if Bailey can play 80% of his play last night it opens up way more options for us.  His grip strength and toughness had not been good enough.  Granted, Booker is a weak 5. And this was a great matchup for him.

Anyway, Credit to our top 7 who have played good ball for 3 games.

Saying we had "a coach who didn't seem to care" is the laughable part of that post. And if we didn't blow a 16 point lead against Nebraska, we'd be sitting pretty already. Fact is it's a flawed team that's now competing. Hopefully they keep it up.

I also said this thread was too early, immediately. A lot to play out.  Was really a vent session.  Vibes were bad with a lot of things.  I didn’t agree with everything he was saying, especially the firing yet.  My main thing was salvaging the season enough to build momentum to be better next season.  That’s where my worry was, because we were trending down a path where I didn’t see the fix. We kept playing the same players in the same spots and struggling to get anything going.

Thank goodness for Dorn. And what he allows this team to do.

Totally with you there and agree with all the things you mentioned about 1 PG / Bailey / top 7 guys.

Just really glad they've finally got some momentum going in conference play. If we can beat USC, things are really looking up. That Nebraska game will bug me the rest of the year. Very curious how we manage working Conerway back into the fold, thankfully Dorn has made the most of his opportunity to start

Dorn has been nothing short of incredible.  He’s really trying to work hard on the defensive end too which will help.  He’s James Blackmon, but better???  Just a guy from Elon.  Wilkerson has been a stud too.  He got a little jittery at times last night but carried us through much of the OTs.  Those 2 are fun to watch. Enright, to his credit, has impressed me the most (relative to my expectations) I’ve been an admitted Enright hater but this lineup has unlocked his best potential.  Plus the clutch plays here and there.

The season is long. Going to be ups and downs throughout the year.  36+ games is a lot of games.  In a season most non elite teams  will look like total crap in 5 or so games, will look at a great team in 5 or so games so it’s that middle 20 where a team probably is.    IU wasn’t an elite team to start with this season and was probably a projected lower seeded tourney team as best case and a bubble team or one that just misses as worst case.    Yep they looked like crap At Michigan (projected 1 seed), At Sparty(a projected 2 seed), home game against Nebraska( projected 2 seed).  Would I of liked them to play better against teams that actually of a chance at winning it all? For sure however I also accept the fact that this team isn’t anywhere near that just yet.    For me the most disappointing loss of the year was Iowa.   They looked like and played like garbage against a team they should have competed better against.  Bad games happen.   Good games happen.   It’s a long season enjoy the grind ( I know most of you are sick of that term)

If it were Woodson he’d immediately go back to his original lineup even if Conerway was still injured. Have to think DeVries will stay with what’s working and work Conerway back in gradually. If he doesn’t I’ll be surprised and disappointed (but I don’t expect to be)

And what do you know? They’re gone and we are playing much better on offense. I’m not sure if they’re gone because we’re playing better or we’re playing better because they’re gone. But it was a major sign of dysfunction with the offensive execution.

Ahh yes the ebbs and flow of college basketball.

This is why our fanbase sucks ^^
