He threw more picks in 400 attempts last year than Mendoza threw in the last 2 years in 700. But he also threw 29 scores, So I assume he’s really trying to make plays? TCU didn't have an O-Line, Running game, or much of a defense this year. He was basically a one man show on offense; which led to some mistakes on his end for sure. He doesnt appear to be very mobile. But if you can put him behind a decent offensive line and give him a run game, I could see him taking a leap with us. He has some cons for sure (turnover prone and lack of mobility), but he can also make some throws not many can make. It would be a slight step back from a Fernando Mendoza (but almost every QB would be), but would still be a very good pick up in my opinion. Demo 1 Quote

Wondering if the CFP champion and runner-up will be able to get in the game of the portal? Think it's 1/2-1/10 or something like that. No spring portal. I imagine playoff P4 teams will actually be at an advantage given the lure of playing for a contender. Quote

Can a player playing in the CFP during that time period declare "transfer" while still playing on the team? Or does that player have to stop playing? I don't understand the rules at all. I ask because I'm assuming there will be available transfers that are currently in the playoff, much like Pat Coogan from last year. Also, it really puts current playoff teams in a bind if you think about it. Especially if you start signing transfers. I can't imagine what that would say to some of the players on the roster, if that makes sense. Quote

Yeah not sure on that either but I think they can enter and play but whether or not the coach would allow that I'm doubtful. It is interesting and I was thinking of it from the opposite direction. Really does put those kids/coaches in a bind. Good question and I await a smart response lol. Lebowski 1 Quote
DChoosier Posted December 19, 2025 Posted December 19, 2025 The NCAA’s Administrative Committee has recommended a new 15-day window, from Jan. 2-16, during which college footballplayers can enter the transfer portal, the organization announced on Tuesday, Oct. 7. Also….. If a player is on a team playing in the championship (ie after the 16th) that player is given a 5 day window after the game to declare for the portal. Lebowski and rcbowla 2 Quote
Pagoda Posted December 19, 2025 Posted December 19, 2025 I’ve got no intel, but IU accounts are discussing him. He was committed to IU at one point as many will remember. Quote

DChoosier Posted December 19, 2025 Posted December 19, 2025 I understand Hoover not wanting to get hurt but still don’t like that he has stated he will enter the portal on Jan 2 but will not play their late December Bowl game against USC. The portal, not the playoffs, is the primary reason the bowl games are completely meaningless. As an example Team X beats Team Y but who cares because Team X’s 5 best players sat out. Prior to the portal, and expanded playoffs, only the participant school’s fans really cared who won the Music City Bowl, as an example, but at least the fans knew their “real/complete team” beat the other “real/complete team”. The non-playoff bowls are pretty much a joke now. cthomas and Crimson and Cream 2 Quote

It's so frustrating that players "bail" on a team at the end of the season, especially if they qualify for a bowl. It really cheapens the team and the bowl. I mean, these bowls are shelling out a decent amount of money for these teams to come play in their bowl. In the end some of these team's key players "pass" on thier team's invite and then look and play nothing like they did during the season. Every team goes into the season with hopes to make a bowl...... It just baffles me. RoadRage 1 Quote

It's not 2004 anymore. Getting injured in a bowl game can literally cost some of these guys 3 million dollars. I dont really blame anybody in line for a huge payday for sitting out. Better write that required bowl participation into that NIL contract if that's important to IU (and it should be). ronzo4IU 1 Quote

It's been that way for like, 10 years. Bowls are no longer cherished anymore. Not to mention, bowls are saturated and have been for a long time. Since the concept of the CFP a non CFP bowl game is basically the NIT. Players understand this, because the goal is to get to the CFP. But I do understand your point and for me personally, I'm looking forward to the day IUFB wins a bowl game. It's been a long long time. Artie86 and ALASKA HOOSIER 2 Quote
